I'm Headed To Eugene For the UO/Griz Game

Post by PapaG » Wed Sep 07, 2005 10:37 am

I'm headed into (somewhat) enemy tailgating before the game. We are sitting in the Grizzly section, but I've become a pretty big Duck fan during my 8 years in Oregon.

My guess? The Ducks will blow the doors off of the Griz. I don't see how UM will be able to sustain an offense against the UO defense by depending solely on Hilliard and the running game. If the Griz passing attack was up to its usual level, I'd say they could put enough points on the board to make the game interesting. Since they are having troubles with the passing game, I have the sense this game could get ugly early.

UM 13

PapaG,

Best of luck in Eugene. I lived there for a couple of years and it's a great University town. Autzen is awesome! Regardless of the outcome of the game, you will have a great time. Have a burger & a beer at Reny's Landing for me if you have the time!

Thanks also for a realistic take on the Griz' chances. IMO, their only hope to keeping it close (for a quarter or two) is if Oregon hands them the ball several times...

Don't be confused by the screen name. I graduated from MSU and have always been a Bobcat fan.

My family is fairly connected to UM, so I am forced ( :D ) at times to put on the good face and attend UM functions/games. I take my fair share of abuse from the 'goodnatured' Griz fans. I'm sure I'll take more 'goodnatured' ribbing this Saturday before the demolition commences. After the game, I'll be sure to compare the Bobcat performance against OSU to the UM performance on Saturday.

I am willing to sya that the Cats played great against OK St. and that the Griz will most likely get clobbered in Eugene this weekend. But I would also add that I believe that Oregon is a far better team than OSU and the outcomes of the games really can not be compared in any realistic fashion. The Griz for the most part are going to be hard to judge until they match up with SDSU and Cal-Poly, the first two weeks will show nothing. I would also like to say that I think the Cats will clobber SFA this weekend. By the way, I believe that OSU will go winless in the Big 12 this year, but they should be able to beat FAU and Ark St.

PapaG what are you going to say when you find out the cats have lost to SFA?

I couldn't disagree more. IMO, this year a middle of the road team in the Big XII South is better than a top 3 team in the P-10. Take USC out of the PAC-10 right now and what do you have? And OSU going winless in conference play????? Care to put any money on that one?

Gizindahouse, I would be willing to bet big money on OSU. I have been an OSU fan for years and believe me they have a great team and will be very competitive in th Big 12.

I just heard on ESPN last night that although Cal rolled Sac St. last weekend, they lost their starting QB for the season.

Cal could be in a world of hurt this season. Their starting QB went down against Sac (out for the season), and then their backup went 0-10 the rest of the game. The last QB they tried played fullback for them last season.

If this backup QB doesn't show about 1000% improvement immediately, it could be a long and ugly season for Cal.

I have to agree that minus USC the Pac-10 isn't nearly as strong as the Big 12. I don't think that Oregon is better than Ok. State, but that is just my opinion. I think that no matter what the result of the Montana/Oregon game is we still won't know how these teams stack up against each other for a few more weeks.

IF the griz can get any type of passing game established, they will put up some points on the _ucks; their secondary is short and they have spent their last couple of years getting torched.

The griz likely won't have ANY luck with the run. When you have that Ngata guy plugging up the line as well as some other huge guys, it makes for a dismal outlook.

Oregon has huge potential in their backfield and they have some top notch receivers.

If the griz can connect through the air, it's UO 42 um 21

If they can't connect, it's 42-6 in UO's favor.
