This is turning out to be a Van Diest post. So...... Who knows if he could win at the D-1AA level. It may be too big a jump for him but I doubt it. The only concern I would have with VD going to the griz is that he is such a good in state recruiter and the kids seem to really relate to him. MSU has made some progress in getting some of the better in state recruits. With VD in Missoula we may take a small step back.

Interestingly enough, San Diego State (SDSU) did fire their head football coach today.

Other rumored candidates include former Bobcat QB Dennis Erickson and former Bears and Colt QB Jim Harbaugh.

I have a fairly reliable source who says Hauck interviewed with Schemmel back when the Griz were in CA to play Sac State. That is pretty stiff competition for Hauck who still has a lot to prove. SDSU wants to compete for a NC and says $$$ is no object. That tells me they will hire Neuheisel or Erickson. Wouldn't it be great if a Bobcat beats Bobby again!

God, please let Hauck go to San Diego! PLEASE!

Seriously, if Newweasel gets the head job at SDSU, he might bring in Hauck as his D-coordindator, or "assistant head coach", or some bogus title like that. Bobby wants out of the fire here, and he would get a raise to go to SDSU, even as a coordinator. He may take it just to get closer to a IA head job, and to get out of Missoula before he gets fired after a dismal 2006 season, which is a VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY. Sometimes it's easier to run from the inevitable.
