The entire athletic department was placed on 2 years probation at Weber State today. The violation was allowing student athletes to make $8000 in purchases at the bookstore of personal items. That money was earmarked for textbooks. Here's the article.

Interesting to note that they were forced to drop one scholarship during the probation and the NCAA stipulated it be a Football scholarship. With a Weber football team on the rise, hopefully this won't adversely affect them. Sounds like it was mostly the athletes, and not the Athletic Dept. at fault here though.

As I think about the loss of a scholarship there are a few things that tick me off.kmax wrote:Interesting to note that they were forced to drop one scholarship during the probation and the NCAA stipulated it be a Football scholarship. 1) Where does the scholarship go?
2) What if that scholarship money instead went to the general university fund or to an academic scholarship?
It seems that taking away an athletic scholarship completely closes two doors. One for an athlete, the other potentially for a student.

What does this mean as far as the playoffs are concerned? Will they still be able to play in the playoffs?
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.
