Do we need to say thanks to the Griz?

Post by Platinumcat » Tue Mar 21, 2006 12:26 pm

I don't see a topic regarding this. So, I thought I'd start a thread on it.

I saw in the paper the day after the Griz won their first round game that the Big Sky Conference makes something like $1.6 million for the victory. This money is to be split evenly amongst the conference members for the next five years. So, our school will receive $140,000 some thousand dollars next year and $130,000 some thousand for the next four after UNC gets to collect their check for the last four years.

Wow! Now I know why conferences such as the Big East cry so much when they don't get enough teams into the big dance. It's all about the $$$$$$$$

Minus expenses. Shared equally minus expenses. So the Griz need to learn how to pull a Texas. (or any other big Conf. school) Texas will charter a plane for 300 big boosters and fly them out and put them up in a hotel ect ect ect. Collect a booster checks (that they don't share), then take the 1.6 subtract travel expenses of 600K and divide the 1 million equally. Not fair; but that's what happens when you let accountants run the world.

This shows why it is important to have good records, and wins against strong programs to put yourself in a position to be a 10-12 seed. The opportunity for wins increases as does the payout. Did I read the article right that if the Griz had lost there would have been no money. :?:

That's right Teton...the last win was Weber's in 1999 and the cash from that win runs out this year....

You may want to hire a coach first and them get a point guard.
