Vince Young

Post by gtapp » Wed Mar 22, 2006 11:09 pm

Where do you think Vince will go in the draft? Experts have him going from 4 to 10. People question if his college skills will translate to the NFL. I have no idea. I have never been able to spot a future star. Just curious how far down everyone thinks he might fall.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Some were saying he was going to drop down to about seventh for the Raiders, but I don't see that happening since they signed Aaron Brooks today. I think he has a chance of going to the Jets if they don't manage to pick up Leinart but could see Young falling as far as 8, 9 or 10 to Buffalo, Detroit or Arizona with Detroit being the most outside chance on those. I doubt he would end up going to Green Bay at 5 since they have Rodgers from last year. Sportscenter was saying that he has a private workout with the Titans tomorrow so maybe he could end up there but I'd bet lower since his forty time was slower than most expected and he throws like he's flicking boogers. Just my .02.

I think the Vikes will get him! If anyone puts any faith in his test scores it should reinforce that he's the perfect fit in Minnihaha along with all those Packer castoffs.

What's with the Vikes going after the Packer cast offs anyway. One article I read said they wanted to sign Longwell (kicker) because it would take one of the better players away from their arch rival. Seems to me the Pack never made much of a Super Bowl run when these "cast offs" where in their prime so I'm not so sure what the Vikes are thinking of? :D

My gut feeling is that Vince Young is going to be a bust in the NFL. I never bought into him being a top 3 pick.

Interesting, I have the opposite gut feeling. I will admit that I am a Texas fan, but that also means I have watched Vince Young play in a lot more games than the average college football fan. I have this feeling that in 5 years teams will say "Why didn't we draft that guy when he was on the board." Similar to Michael Jordan getting picked third.(In now way am I saying VY will equal MJ's level of success)

I have just watched Young play in too many pressure packed situations and keep his cool and help his team relax. The guy is dancing and joking in the huddle before 4th and 5 at the end of the National Championship game. He may not have all the tools of a typical quarterback, but I think he has "it".

Gee RTB I don't recall any stories about the great leaders in team sports messing around during a huddle or time out? Any Montana, Elway, Aikman, Brady stories of the happy go lucky leader of an NFL football team. Did MJ grab ass with Scottie during time outs to keep him relaxed?

Steve Young points out you can be a great running QB for a couple of years, but they beat that out of you in a hurry.

Sorry jag, I was relating MY OPINION and how Vince Young doesn't get rattled easily. Why do you have to be so condescending when someone has a different opinion than you?

Fixed it for ya

Sorry, Culpepper did to Moss what Kobe did to Shaq, IMO. Both wanted to be the star but now neither will win. (I'm a Laker fan, btw)

I the second SUper Bowl against the Bengals, when the Niners got the ball with under two minutes and down by 4 or so points they were in the huddle starting the drive and Montana said to Harris Barton, "H check out the first row behind the endzone, isnt' that John Candy." It blew everybody in the huddle away and loosened them up. (saw it on NFL films.)

Not dancin in the huddle but sometimes lightening the mood in a tense situation is needed.

Green Bay would be foolish not to take him, and I think they will have the opportunity. They won't want to, but the best and most successful GMs always have said, "you have to take the best person available to you at the time. The teams before the Packers already have there near term and long term QBs, or so they think. The Pack have their top choice for Favre's replacement, but heck, if Young's available, I think you have to hedge your bet - if you are the Pack.

The Vikes can't trade up high enough to get him, unless he is slipping past 14 or 15. I think that's about the highest the Vikes could trade up to, without giving up too much. They have the money, though. It was just reported that Mike McMahon will back up Brad Johnson - so, to me, that means the Vikes could really be in the hunt to go after Leinert, Young or Cutler. McMahon certainly isn't the future for them. One reason, though, I don't like Young for the Vikes is because Childress is a "systems" guy, and by Mack Brown's own admission, "Vince did better the less we coached him." Ummmmm, that's not a ringing endorsement if you are an NFL OC.

Young will last longer than 2 years, Hells, because his contract will be for 5 years and 30 million about.

One of Young's cons, is the fact that he took a huge majority of snaps at Texas in the shotgun. That's not the way it is in the NFL. His best option would be to go to a team that has a good starter already, and he can be a backup for a year or two.

Probably his biggest asset is his ability to win in pressure games.

I think he'll be better than average, just because he is so superior athletically. Once NFL D Coordinators figure him out, though, he will be brought back to the pack of average QBs. Look at Vick and Culpepper. You could even put McNabb in there. Those guys just don't make the necessary reads consistently.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

Apology accepted RTB.
Why do you always resort to personal attacks when proven wrong?

Get real, you called all UNC fans numb nut fans yesterday. Ease up a little! I know that VY is a very big unknown and I love to hear all the different opinions, but I am tried of you trashing on everyone who has a different opinion. If you want to discuss it fine, but keep the childish crap out.

Will be be better than Vick, Culpepper (before the injury)?

There are a lot of teams that wouldn't take Vick as QB, and I doubt that Young will be anywhere near as good as Vick. He should be a late first rounder, but will probably end up in the top five. Of course, these dropping rumors could be coming from people that have seen him in workouts, which explains something to us all.

Don't forget, Rodgers dropped from a potential number one to late first round. If NFL teams don't see what they like in Young, they won't take him.

I'm hoping the Pack takes that DE (can't remember name or where he from) that everyone is high on. I'm not a fan of Young at the Pro level.

They'll probably end up with A. J. Hawk, which is good for them because he's going to be a more complete defensive player and he likes the cold
