VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Former Carroll College quarterback Tyler Emmert signed a free agent contract with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, the team announced Thursday.
Emmert, of Helena, Mont., led Carroll College to four straight NAIA national championships, had a 51-3 record as a starter and finished his career with a 21-game winning streak.
He holds the NAIA career record with 13,979 yards of total offense. He passed for 12,770 yards and 110 touchdowns and ran for 1,209 yards and 23 more scores.
"To say Tyler comes to us with an impressive football resume would be an understatement," said Lions general manager Wally Buono. "He's a winner and you just can't have too many of those. I expect him to come in and compete very well with our three quarterbacks and I look forward to seeing him in action."
One of those quarterbacks is Dave Dickenson, a Great Falls, Mont., native who led the University of Montana to the 1995 NCAA Division I-AA national championship.
Emmert was the Rawlings-NAIA National Football Player of the Year in 2003 and 2005 and received the A.O. Duer Award as the NAIA's top student athlete in 2004. He also earned Associated Press first-team Little All-America honors as a senior.
Emmert and former Carroll receiver Tyler Peterson, also of Helena, Mont., plan to attend the BC Lions free agent camp in Lake Oswego, Ore., on Saturday.
