Does not have the perimeter skills to play outside (offense or defense) or the size and strength to play inside.

Prediction: Walk on at UW, sit the bench for a couple years then transfer out, probably to the Frontier Conference.
Agreed.....alot of BS talk on this site!

Story from Realdawg.com

Montana Guard Takes Official Visit to Washington
4/11/2005
Ruth Robbins, Publisher

Right when you thought it was safe to think that the Husky basketball class of 2005 was
in the books, in walks a young man out of the state of Montana that might be joining that
class in the same type of capacity. Missoula's Hellgate high school has a 6-6, 195 lb.
two-guard by the name of Jack McGillis that was in Seattle on Thursday taking an
official visit to the University of Washington, and he liked what he saw. Here's the
scoop...

McGillis isn't exactly a "late bloomer", per se, but he's a late bloomer as far as the
University of Washington's 2005 recruiting effort is concerned.

Romar and Co. didn't take any chances on letting this Montana gem get away...

"I took an official visit", McGillis told Realdawg.com Sunday, "It was real hurried --
Coach Romar called my mom in the morning and told her he'd like to have me up to visit,
so we went up on Thursday and spent the whole day -- it was real tight."

McGillis checked out the UW campus, the facilities, the whole atmosphere of what
Washington basketball is all about, "He's a great person, very honest, tells it like it is", he
said of Coach Romar, "I got to meet everyone on the team except Nate Robinson and
Will Conroy."

The Scoop...

McGillis is a familiar name in Big Sky country basketball circles -- he's had a good deal
of pub in his home state, not just for his work on the hardwood, but also for what he can
do on the gridiron.

McGillis has a standing offer to play wide receiver/defensive end for the Montana
Grizzlies from former Husky assistant, Bobby Hauck.

"I'm going to make my decision Tuesday night", he said of the choice between basketball
at Washington, or football at Montana.

If he chooses the Huskies, he'll be going into the basketball program as a walk-on
initially, with the chance to earn a scholarship.

"He (Romar) never offered me a scholarship because they don't have any left for this
year", Jack explained, "But he's told me that I have an opportunity to come in and play if
I walk on, and contribute and earn a scholarship down the road -- Another reason I'm
looking at Washington is because of the prestige of their program and you have an
opportunity to play for a national championship at Washington, that's the direction coach
Romar is taking them."

Romar did more than just impress McGillis; his mother accompanied him on the visit to
Seattle and she was equally impressed, "He showed us around and my mom took my
picture with him holding the Pac-10 trophy. I had a great time on my visit -- Coach
Romar is not the type of coach that's going to lie to you."

"I've never been with a coach where he's with you the whole day", Jack's mother noted,
"It was very nice that he showed us so much respect."

Scouting Report..

During his regular season, Jack averaged 20 pts per game, 7 boards, 4 assists and 2
blocked shots.

On his AAU team -- the North Cougar Select -- he averaged 24 pts per game, 9 rebounds,
5 assists and 3 blocks.

"I think one of my strengths is that I'm able to rise over the defender and shoot over the
top over the top of him", said Jack, who considers himself a 'gym-rat'.

"I play a two and three, but I would preferably like to come in and play the two", which
would give Washington a tall shooting guard at 6-6.

A fifty-one percent three point shooter (31 of 62), Jack led the state from outside the line.
He was also a free-throw champion -- missing just 14 times in 93 attempts for a
percentage of .849.

Jack is very athletic, and although he may have slipped under the radar with some
recruiting services -- he's definitely a three-star or above player. He could grow another
inch (his father is 6-7), "My plates are still open", he said.

He has above average ball handling skills and excellent hops.

"I feel I could definitely play in the Pac-10", he said, "That's why I went (to Washington)
to take that visit."

If this works out, Washington gets a steal -- a player that shoots over 50% from
three-point range is a huge asset to any program.

It is our feeling that Jack will wear purple when all is said and done...

Either Helena or Havre ultimately. Unless he plays football.

Probably Havre. Mostly because of the landscape and scenery.....Either Havre or UW.

I've been reading that he's a pretty good shot. The Bear Paws are full of deer, great elk hunting and lots of prairie goats around...clear up to the Sweet Grass Hills...plus all the fishing that you don't have to get out of the way of the Hyde or Neoprene hatches

That's funny...That is the same pitch Durham threw at McGillis about the Galliton to get him to come to the 'Cats. I guess Mick couldn't find a hunting lisence for Big Jack.

I've seen McGilllis play "up close & personal" for 2 seasons now and I can GUARANTEE that Romar is not offering him a schollie at this point. I saw nothing in the kid that even had me thinking he could play Big Sky ball, let alone for a top 25 program. He may have been one of AA's better players this season, but overall AA was the weakest I've seen it in 13 years of following it closely.

If McGillis walks on, his picture will start to appear in all American dictionaries next to the word STRETCH.

Did you mean "STRETCH LIMO" if he goes to UW and wins a NC? One would think Romar knows talent when he sees it.

Agreed El GAT SOME.

Jack's a great kid, great work ethic, but this notion of every playing a meaningful minute for the Huskies is nuts! Romar obviously hasn't seen him play in person or he wouldn't even begin to lead him on.........

..........and don't get too excited about this 3-point %. When you having Cox breaking down any defense and Morris on the other wing, it's no wonder Jack routinely had 2-3 full seconds to get his feet set from there...and to be honest with you, that's what other teams wanted to see, because the alternative with Hellgate was a Cox or Shaffer layup.

I know a lot of fat city leaguers that can shoot 50% from 19'9" when noone's guarding them.....................COME ON MONT HOOPS...........your heart is really getting in the way of your brain on this one.

I have stayed the course with my views of McGillis skills and Upside. They have not changed or waivered in any way and he has definitely done nothing to prove me wrong. I have no doubt that Jack can play at UW. Lorenzo Romar doesn't either. As far as Romar is concerned, He wants Jack to sign and be a Husky. You can call him crazy, you can call him misinformed, you can even say His heart is getting in the way. But the Fact of the matter is that Romar is recruiting Jack, as are other D1 schools right now, with a few scholarships in the mix.

I agree....he would have been signed in November of his senior year if he could play at any level other than the Frontier.
