He's a nice guy but I didn't think he would get it because the others had more/better experience. I think he'll do just fine, but I can't see this as anything but a good ol' boy hire.

Did you ask you good friend over on the other site how come his "inside" info was completely wrong.Cat-theotherwhitemeat wrote:He's a nice guy but I didn't think he would get it because the others had more/better experience. Since you've already hi-jacked this thread...

Back to O'day...I've met him and he seemed like a nice guy. AD material? I guess we'll soon find out. Knowing what I know about the candidates (which is minimal at best), I don't think I would have gone with him, but I'm certainly not going to bash him without seeing what he can do for the athletic program. Needless to say, I won't lose any sleep over his selection.

Meat this sounds just like Wolf… Are you sure that Wolf isn’t your alter ego?Cat-theotherwhitemeat wrote: Back to O'day...I've met him and he seemed like a nice guy. AD material? PS I might have jumped into the Milk River too many times in Glagsow.

I don't think it was the swimming in the water as much as it was drinking it! I assumed that the "Milk" river would have tasted a little more like milk... It really tasted a lot like mercury…Cat-theotherwhitemeat wrote: I think you jumped into the Milk river too many times while living in Scottie country.
Meat why haven't you and Wolf ever been seen in the same place. It is like Clark Kent and Superman. Or in your case Dr. Jekle and Mr. Hyde! I will go through your posts and I am sure that I will find a post of yours as “Meat” which you used the phrase “sheep” to describe those that disagree with you! Then the truth will be out!
Let the witch-hunt begin!

Good luck with that. I think the only time I used the word sheep was to describe your homecoming date. Unless that happens to be your wife, then I retract that last statement. Can't be talking about people's wives, that's just not cool.
By the way, I'd be Superman. The elf would play Clark.

ah yes, I see the post he made that parallels mine. We did agree....
It's usually not what he says that bothers me, but how he says it. Can you say pompous? How about pretentious? Conceited? Any of those will do.
However, you'll notice that mine was done 3 hours before his. He thinks that O'Day was not the first choice. I don't agree with that. I didn't see any documentation that said the others were interviewing with other schools. I can't see applying for the job and withdrawing or turning it down unless I had a better opportunity elsewhere.
I don't think he was the most qualified candidate, but I do think he'll do a good job.

The good news for UM is that you have no say in their affairs. I think Jim will do a good job, surround himself with talented people and continue the success of of UM teams on the field, court, etc...El_Gato wrote:Personally, as a Bobcat, I think O'Day was a GREAT pick.
Of their 5 final candidates, I had him as their 4th best choice...

I have found it interesting to watch this play out. It is truly a situation where absolutely nobody outside administration knows anything about the workings of the athletic department. (check out the egriz thread on the subject, which is truly hilarious reading for the cynical) The cool thing about folks posting about sports is that we all (well, some of us) have actually competed in sports so we have a working knowledge that allows us to be critical of the decisions players and coaches make...This is truly not one of those examples...
