I am just posting this because I am always amazed by delusion. On whatifsports.com players are debating what to name a new Dynasty world. A Griz fan predictably posted Read as up in the ranks of Robinson, Gagliardi, etc. This isn't meant as smack because I believe Read was a very good coach, but maybe not great....just looking for thought

I think Read could have been considered great, if he would have stuck around longer. He had his fill, won his title, and left on top. Had he stayed at UM longer, he may have amassed alot more wins, and been able to be considered one of the greats.

Don Read was certainly a great coach and was without a doubt the greatest coach ever at UM. But I don't think he really had the number of wins to be up there with guys like Robinson and Gagliardi. I don't even hate Read, even though I am a Bobcat fan.

Didn't Don Read come into the Griz program at a time when it had been struggling for quite some time? I believe he did and I believe he is the "father" of what Griz football is now. I won't get into how he compares to others but for the UofM and the Big Sky I believe he did great things and built a great program... meaning he was a great coach. On top of that he is a class act and wonderful person and put a ton of integrity into that program. I would put Sonny Holland and Don Read in the same class... on top... there were simply terrific people and great coaches.
