Official I-AA Attendance - 2005

I note that the Bobcat home attendance average is #14th in the Nation last year, for 13,710. The Griz are #1 for the first time (usually #2 or 3) with 22,479 average.

It would be interesting to guage and compare the away-game faithful numbers as well. In 2004 the Griz took over 7,000 to PSU, and had ~5,000 at each national championship appearance (5, count 'em 5 in the last 11 years.)

I've talked about having a "Program" a couple of times before on this page. It appears the Cats are trying but have a ways to go.

Cheers! :P

Does that 22,479 include the first round of the playoffs?

Yes it does. That's Thanksgiving weekend and the students and others are gone or hunting. I recall we only had 16,000 in the stands to see us get man-handled.

That drove the #'s down, but it does for everybody else too.

Maybe they should figure it out by percentage of the stadium filled. A 13,000 average ain't so bad when the stadium can only hold 13,000 something anyways. They must come, before we can build it...

no we should build it, then they will come.
once we have a stadium that is as big/nice then we will start to have a recruiting advantage

A stadium with less than full capacity still looks worse than a smaller stadium filled to the brim. Just ask UAB. Recruits usually come to games and if it looks empty, it doesn't say much to them, even if there a lot more people than usual in attendence.

I was at that game. I'll give you 4000, maybe 5000, but there is no way that 7000 fans fit into the two Griz sections at PGE Park.

BTW- The 'Cats brought in around 4000 for this year's game at PGE.

The reports as I remember them - we lost anyway!

When we do expand our facility it's important that we do more than repair the seats in the end zone. We need to add more between the twenties. Those are the money seats!

As long as you're putting in more seats (which I hope you do), replace the turf too.

Delaware and Georgia Southern would be my guess. Though some of the SWAC teams that may also if they get to count the Classics in their home attendance figures.

They really average over 22 thousand a game? Maybe Delaware...but who would go to a georgia southern game when you can go to a Geogria game? hmmm...

You DO realize that there are other programs out there that are as good or better than UMs don't you?

GSU has a very rich history and have won SIX I-AA national championships, and their fan base is just as strong (if not stronger) than UMs.

UM has a great football program, but it has only been that way the past 10-15 years.

Yale, Southern, Montana and Delaware are usually on top as far as attendance. Montana does not have the largest stadium in I-AA. There are schools with stadiums that hold 60,000+.
