That's embarrassing. Talk about letting your student athletes down. But it's not football so no one will give a crap over there.

Just wait. They are going to be really good at running in a straight line when the bubble is done.

That really sucks. I’m at a loss. How does the administration go to a football game and bask in the glow of that team’s success while something like this is happening?

Maybe a few should join the bobcats.

Haslam has had some real low points as um AD. Seems like these athletes were on scholarship mostly to meet Title IX, not to be supported and achieve success. And Haslams non-rehiring of Schweyen was so inept. Her contract was up. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut prior to it and then say "we are going in a different direction". Nope. He implied she would be retained, then she wasn't, and he gave some excuse of due to player turnover. The gris men's BB had a higher player turnover and DeCuire is still coaching. Lawsuit is the result.

I guess as long as he kisses the right boosters bottoms and keeps money flowing into football, he got a job.

Does the Kaimin just hate the athletic department? They have a XC coach. He was hired in August.

I'm not one to defend anything that goes on over there but MSU also has one HC for all four XC/T&F teams. We pay our T&F assistants but according to our site we don't have any XC assistants, meaning if we do they likely aren't paid. Since the griz HC isn't a runner it would make sense for him to delegate most of the coaching to assistants.

All the press our of Missoula seems to be bad press but this seems overblown. It sounds like the paper just found a girl on the team in her last year that was willing to help them write a hit piece.

Looking at the standings from the most recent Big Sky championship, I'm not sure if any would make the MSU roster.

They hired a coach literally right as the XC season started, and it was somebody with little to no running experience. The XC program deserves better than how UM treated them. Had MSU done this I would be embarrassed.

If I was a griz fan or member of the XC/TF teams I'd be much more upset about hiring a pole vault coach as HC than the timing of the hire. Since he's not actually coaching running it probably doesn't matter when he got the job.

I'm guessing they don't really care about non-spectator sports and figured nobody else would either. It would be a slightly bigger story, it's still XC after all, if the team was really good and then fell off because of this but I doubt that's the case. Seems in line with the way they run things over there in general but ultimately I just don't think there is as much here as people want there to be.

Not sure what kind of Title IX support is taken seriously at um given they allowed a male to run women's track. He even won the Big Sky women's mile.

Well, this is dUMb we’re taking about. If it’s not football, who cares? Football is all they have to brag about there. And even football is looking like it will finish, at best, in 5th place.

Did XC in high school xc is always the most disrespected sport because "its just running anyone can run" pisses me off

Yep, so true. We used to run lots of "pukers" and not many would enjoy that. There is no one out there to cover for you.

I recall the football team.harassing us eventually the football coach found out and made them run with us one day must of them were dead by a half mile warm up run never heard anything again from them

Yep, they found out it wasn't so darned easy... I even had our sprinter, a 10.5 guy, challenge me in the 880, LONG time ago. He found out that it was more than just flat out speed.

Yep 800+ is a different strategy even in my peak didn't get near 10.5
