Texas A&M are a lot like um and not just having maroon colors. The fanbase is convinced of their superiority but have very little in the way of actual results.

$76 million buyout? I’m sorry, but there is something so wrong with this. There are people in need and hurting all over — and this kind of money is thrown at a guy getting fired. I’m sure we all know 1 of 7,600 families that $10,000 would mean the world to.

Yea it's a crazy amount, but these guys get $10 million a year. That's where the crazy starts.

The thing that was wrong was signing Jimbo to a contract long enough that a $76m buyout was even possible, and that's after they waited a year for the number to come down.

I dont know exactly how the state of Texas pays their football coaches, but at the vast majority of these institutions, coaches are state employees, which means that in one way or another they are paid by taxpayers (this wouldn't apply to Stanford, Duke, BYU, and a handful of others)

Maybe boosters come up with some portion of the money, but if I were a taxpayer in Texas, I'd be pretty peeved at public employees getting a $76m buyout. Especially given the conditions of Texas roads, power grid, failing public schools, etc.

Pretty reasonable for the public to tell public institutions how to spend their money.

Not going to be taxpayer money. The buyout money comes from boosters. It may not be an official policy there but in this situation it has been documented for a while that that's the case. They (boosters) wanted to dump Jimbo last year but didn't want to pay the buyout (I think it was closer to $90m then). I guess another average season, especially after buying all those players over the last couple years, was too much and they decided to take the loss. If I was a taxpayer I'd be peeved that a coach could be given a contract large enough that a $76m buyout was even possible. No coach should be signed for more than 3 years at a time, especially at a school with such unreasonable expectations.
