Griz Opponents

Post by catatac » Sat Aug 31, 2024 4:41 pm

I've heard quite a bit of chatter from Griz nation this year about how good they're going to be, and how they'll probably roll through their schedule undefeated until the brawl. Based on what I'm seeing today, below is a list of teams that I think could give the Griz a game.

Missouri State
North Dakota
Western Carolina
Eastern Washington
Weber
UC Davis
MSU

They should beat everyone else fairly easily, although they may have a last year's NAU type of game on the schedule.

The rules of probability would suggest that it's more likely than not that both MSU and UM will lose at least once before November 23. Even if you have a 90% chance of winning every game you play the probability of winning 11 in a row is only around 31%. And MSU and UM definitely both have multiple games on the schedule in which their pregame win probabilities will be well below 90%...and also a few where it's above that, of course.

By my algorithm they have the easiest conference schedule.

There is no way Idaho doesn’t jump dUMb in rankings.

Western Carolina is no slouch. The noise might beat them before the gris do.

If UM has trouble with WCU or EWU, then they will likely lose at least two of three vs Weber, Davis and MSU.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

They could have a turn around like last year but that depends upon how long their three starters are out. Now if in the meantime if there are more injuries????

Ha ha, yep! I'm not sure what happened in Cheney but that was a shocker... so unless Drake is way, way better than I thought, I might remove EWU from the list of teams that could beat the Griz. Although that red turf.....
