When I typed in the web address for BN I almost cringed in fear of what dumbass "look what we did" smack talk would be on the board, but there really wasn't much.
Anyways thanks for the support cat fans, I'm so proud that the Griz were able to represent the Big Sky well, and that we're still dancin'.
-- On a side note, during the game a few co workers and I began discussing if the Griz had ever won an NCAA tourney game before (most of us in this discussion were under 30) and finally another guy in the office helped out, yes in 1975. The discussion turned to MSU, and had they ever won an NCAA tourney game, and none of us knew. I said I'd ask "some people" who might know, and of course, its this board. Any help is appreciated.

The 75 team was one win away from the final four and lost by three to eventual champion UCLA (coached by John Wooden). MR Richardson was a freshman. Eric Hayes scored 32 in that game, MacKenzie (sp?) scored 20, MR had about 7 (including a half court shot at the halftime buzzer). It was a great game.

I think we were two wins away from the Final Four though, actually. We only won one game in that tournament (beat Utah State), and there were only 32 teams in the tourney at that time -- thus, we essentially made the Sweet 16 (don't know if they called it the Sweet 16 back then, tho).

Yes that still IS pretty cool. Does anyone have any details? I heard the story once and I know it was a long time ago but would like to know more about it. Wasn't MSU (that year) considered the 1st team to execute the "modern" offense meaning actually running up and down the court, fast breaks and what have you?

We have a national championship in basketball-but it was before the NCAA was invented. I think in those days the national champion was declared sort of like 1-A college football's champion was declared before the BCS came about.

There's a brief write up on the "Golden Bobcats" at the above link. Scroll about half-way down.
