Doesn't hurt having some former Bobcats as assistants either. :D

and a former NFL DE. Actually I think the real reason is that Mark Meredith has finally figured out that athletic training stuff.

Noting the assistant coaching staff is an excellent point! Add that to the fact that most high schools will never see a class of kids like the Hawks senior group as far as god given athletic ability (I am sure these kids work their butts off in the off season, but their DNA is a gift), their exposure to varsity playing time since they were sophomores, and only having one school in the city where all of the talent feeds into (discussed at length in another thread).

This year's Bozo Hi team is special because of the kids. Bozeman will always have a shot in football because of the points above (until they add another AA school in Bozeman... ask anyone in Kalispell what it does to football or wrestling programs), but it is highly unlikely they will ever have a team this good/dominating.

p.s. I will go out on a ledge (starting another firestorm of comments from the bozo hi faithful #-o ) and say the Hawks will be lucky to be 6-4 next year. I have seen their jv and sophmore teams play this year... and they lose an amazing amount of talent and experience.

Sure there is great talent at BHS this year, but give credit where credit is due, Coach Purcell has done a great job of turning around the culture of Hawk football. State title in 2010, state title taken from the jaws of victory in the waning moments last year and, barring injuries or a major upset a great chance at a state title run in 2013. Pretty impressive considering the history of Hawk football previously. Don't say it's just a run of talent being the that Coach Purcell has the program rolling, case in point- in the 1980s the Hawks had major talent, possibly even more than now, including NFL players with good careers (Widmer and Collins), as well as numerous college players during the same era and rarely contended for playoff appearances, much less state titles. So enjoy the Hawk run while it's here and appreciate what the coaches and players are putting out there for us to enjoy on Friday nights!

Ouch! Seems like Bozeman is saving its best for payback on the old powers.

Capital plays at Glacier in a no. 2 vs. no. 3 matchup.

That's not completely accurate. Glacier has been very competitive over the last few seasons, and just might be the 2nd best team in the state this year, although Flathead has fallen on hard times recently.
