Top 2014 MT High School Recruits-FB

Post by mtst8 » Fri May 02, 2014 3:13 pm

Who are some of the top recruits in the state this year? It seems like there were a lot of big names last year.
Is this a "down" class?

Other than Dalton Daum of Butte & Jesse Simms of Corvallis, I haven't heard too many names out there.

I suspect there are a good number of them. We'll just have to wait until the Fall and then we'll start hearing about them.
Many of them are in Spring sports. B

The only one, at this point, that I can think of is Logan Jones from Glacier.

Here is a list of 2013 all state teams for all classes. Quite a few Jr.s

Watch Josh Sandry, QB/CB at Bigfork (he'll play CB in college). He's in track now working on his speed and it's paying off. He's hitting it hard in the weight room and he's a decent size (probably 6'1 or 6'2 and about 190). The most impressive thing about him is his competitiveness. After the semifinal loss to Baker last year all the referee crew could talk about was that he was the most competitive kid they'd ever seen. And in basketball he's not much of a scorer, but in the state tournament he scored 25 and 23 in the semifinal and championship games, really just willing Bigfork to a championship. I've been around a lot of pretty fair athletes from Bigfork in the last few years, and IMO he's easily the best.

Sandry is a good one. I would peg him as a safety at the college level. Maybe a little light right now, but that kids LOVES to hit!

Three kids from Columbia Falls will get to play college ball: Justice McManus a 6'4" 217lb WR/LB, Spencer Ross a 6'5" 285lb T/NG, and Ike Schweikert a 6'3" 210lb QB/LB. Schweikert is the coaches kid, Jaxson Schweikert who played DE for Idaho State when Jamie Martin lit them up for the I-AA single game passing record that lasted up until two years ago. He came to Columbia Falls from Mount Vernon, WA and actually beat Oak Harbor a few times while he was there. Those are the three kids who stand out on the Columbia Falls team this year, in my opinion, and they all have room to grow into their bodies yet. Several other kids on the team will play college ball at some level but again, these are the three who stand out as I watch the kids prepare and play.

Ha! I was going to do a post about CFalls today as well. Watched them here in Lewistown last Saturday. I agree with all 3 you list above. They had a couple others who were big bodies (OL types in college), although they are probably more Frontier level guys.

I wish Gove and Morgan were larger kids and had more growth potential. Columbia Falls is pretty young as far as a high school team goes. Their sophomores are a pretty dedicated bunch--heck, the whole team are really good kids. I think they reflect the Coach. He's a real positive influence.

The Konkol kid from Belgrade sounds like a guy to keep an eye on.

This morning's Missoulian reported Jessee Simms signed to play with Oregon State

Justin Keeling (Billings Skyview) ~ Running Back and Defensive End. Big frame and FAST!

Tre'von Dixon Strong (Billings Skyiew) ~ Defensive Back and Wide Receiver. 100% athlete, great nose for the ball.

Kyle Reitler (Billings Skyview) - Center and Defensive Tackle. 6'4" 290lbs, moves well, huge upside.

Articles from the Billings Gazette about Keeling and Dixon-Strong respectively below:

An incredible athlete from Whitefish: Jack Streibich a 6'2" WR/LB with great hands and a knowledge of the game. He made a kid who will make a decent Frontier QB look good with some unbelievable catches against Columbia Falls and he conducts himself with a great deal of class. When Columbia Falls blocked an extra point attempt and the kid just walked back to the official instead of taking it back for two points, he didn't mock or ridicule the kid as some of the other Whitefish kids and that impressed me. Felt sorry for the kid who recovered the blocked kick, but it's just a game.
