Next Friday night, October 8th at Bozeman's Van Winkle Stadium. Should be a great matchup between the #1 and #2 teams in the state. Helena High is still only allowing about 40 yds rushing per game (after the Capital effort by Grover and Burton), but Bozeman has a very high-powered and dangerous offense. The Bengal offense finally started clicking against the Bison and won easily 35-14 (although the score wasn't even that close), and the Hawks rolled past a powerful (but winless) Flathead offense and easily won 48-7.
This is Helena High's best start since 1958 and there's definitely some excitement and buzz coming from the players, who realize they have just accomplished something no other Bengal team has done in over 50 years. This is going to be a great football weekend in Bozeman MT!
I plan on being there for this game and then hitting downtown the night before homecoming. Who's with me???

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.

I'm a Capital High alum, but this is refreshing. I'd really like to see this game and hope it's a good one. If so, a re-match in the championship would do a lot to energize AA football. Time to break up the old CHS, West, and CMR triumverate.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Flathead has a "powerful" offense? You said it all when you also noted that they are winless.
Bozeman wins this game in Bozeman. They're very good and a little home cookin' will be in store for the Bengals which should tip it in the Hawks favor.

Umm... well, either the Tribune and Chronicle were wrong, but both were quoted as calling them "high-powered" and averaging 30+ points a game. Sorry, I'll do a little more research next time. Oh yeah... and Bengals win going away. No home cookin.

HHS was also 6-0 in 1983, sorry Tom, just stating the facts.

I am very curious to watch how Helena High's vaunted defense takes on Bozeman's multi-pronged offense. To date, teams have simply been out-matched. Tanner Roderick is stellar in the way he attacks the defense. This is surely aided by a very talented supporting cast and coaching/play calling that allows his talents to flourish. I'm hoping I get to say tonight what I've said every game this year; it looks like a man playing against boys out there.
I think Bozeman's defense will do what it has been doing and will keep Helena High below 20 points. In this scenario, I score the game 38-17, Bozeman.
Weathe forecat today isn't stellar with some rain showers possible. Last night I was told that 7000 people are expected for the game. Get there early for a seat. I believe they are bringing in extra bleachers for the game.
See you all there.

I can't imagine Helena High giving up 38 points, but Bozeman is very dangerous. A slick field probably helps the defense. Interesting that they're bringing in bleachers for the game. Van Winkle has always lacked atmosphere (in part because the Hawks haven't exactly torn up the AA in last 20 years in football) and with those sparse and equally lousy bleachers they've had on the visitors' side this should help.

The only reason I throw in the 38 points for Bozeman is that they haven't played first squad and kept the pedal punched for any game this year. Just about to leave. Can't wait.

Hawks 35, Bengals 28. HHS ball on BHS 24 with about 1 minute to go. South intercepted by Roderick on the goal line. I hear HHS had three straight TOs and Bozeman turned them all into points. Sounds like a good game.
CMR 14-14 with Skyview.
Bruins 24, West 10, 1:54.

Roderick ran for a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass, caught a touchdown pass, kicked all the extra points, did the punting and intercepted the ball on the goaline with about 15 seconds left to seal the game.

Great game and a huge crowd.

Fantastic game! Two very good teams that refused to give up. The game was full of momentum swings. What a great way to spend a Friday night. Best football crowd I've been witness to at Bozeman High.
Can't help but hope those two teams meet up again just from the standpoint of my entertainment.
Kudos to both!

It really looks like Bozeman, Helena and then everyone else. Apparently CMR was just a flash in the pan last week with their win over Capital last week. Rustlers lost to Skyview 28-14. Capital had a nice win over West and it could be a Bengal-Bruin semi-final, but I don't see Capital winning that. Bozeman will probably play West, but Hawks seem like they're head-n-shoulders above the Bears.
