Tourney Time!!!

Post by TomCat88 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 7:53 pm

Big weekend for state tourneys. Anyone going to any of them? Is your Hometown team playing.

The Capital boys won today. Girls are up right now.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Gotta give a shout out to the Roy-Winifred Outlaw boys! 26-0 and the ONLY team in the state to go undefeated all season. Pretty impressive!

I went to the Class A boys here in Billings. Pulled for Central but Stevi was a better team. Really fast played with precision. Central looked gassed in the 4th quarter. I'll have to say the reffing was called really really tight in the semi's and championship games. I have never seen so many ticky tacky fouls in my life and it went both ways. In both games both teams were in the double bonus practically in the start of the 2nd and 4th quarters. Took away from the flow. Way different than the divisionals where they let the boys play (although probably too much!)

I took in the Class C tourney and had a great time watching the Outlaws take home the trophy. I'm even a little surprised there isn't a little bit of chatter in here about Chad Kananen. I have watched the kid play over the years and he just gets better and better. After last year he was getting Frontier offers and I wondered if he could make it at that level but after this year I have no doubts. He shoots as well as anyone I have seen and never really seems to have an off night. He is a good athlete at 6'1 and can dunk pretty easy. I don't think he is super athletic like the kids in the Big Sky but I would take him in a shooting contest over any player we have currently.

You're wrong on that comment. Fairfield High School Girls have just finished their 3rd straight undefeated season saturday night. They set the Montana High School record for most consecutive wins (78 after saturday) in state history during divisionals in Glasgow. They took that title from the Great Falls Lady Bison who had the record from '80-'82. They have not last a game since the state championship in 2010.

Apologies. Meant in Boys Basketball, all divisons, btw. I stand corrected though. And the Fairfield girls are really something! =D^

I understand that Jill Barta is getting recruited by several big-time programs, including Notre Dame, Stanford, and most of the other Pac-10 schools. They've won 5 of the last 6 state titles, and the only year they didn't win state, they finished 2nd to Malta in 2010. What's really remarkable about their run of success, is that they're one of the smallest, if not the smallest, Class B school in the state, with an enrollment of 107, which is well below the B/C cutoff of 130. They're usually one of the top teams in the state in boy's hoops and football too.

I've heard Gonzaga is the front runner for her services FWIW...
