MT vs TX 6-man

Post by coloradocat » Sat Aug 31, 2024 11:54 pm

I thought there was a thread for this but I couldn't find it. Here are the highlights of the games between 2 Texas 6-man teams that came up to play 2 Montana teams. Texas won both games.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

From looking at some of the highlights, the Strawn walkout looks as if they suited up half of the town.

I noticed the same! That school has a total enrollment of 187 according to Wikipedia which I'd guess is way more than most of the Montana 6-man football schools have.

A little more than double, according to Fall 2023 data Custer-Hysham-Melstone had a total enrollment of 77 students last year. Highwood which played in the other game only had 32 students.

MHSA rules require that a school's enrollment to be 65 or less to participate in 6-man football. There is a mechanism in place that allows schools to petition for relief if the school meets the listed criteria (which includes use of future enrollment projections, historical roster size, etc..). From what I see, Texas allows schools to participate in 6-man football if enrollment is below 105 students.

But Strawn is over and not by a little.

It looked like that many were in the walkout.
