I guess I'll go ahead and be the first person to say it...
Too bad Bobby took the job at UNLV, as he would be a surefire replacement at USC.
....you know, bashing Bobby isn't near as fun as it used to be

Re: Seattle fires Mora....hires Pete Carroll?
i'd be shocked if carroll left usc for that job. i guess weirder things have happened but to me, even with the "down" season they had this year, that seems to me to be the best job in the country. the only thing i could see is if the latest issue they are having involving mcnight proves foul play, maybe he's looking to get out while he can. i've always been of the idea that cheating and recruiting violations are pretty much par for the course at big time universities. i always hope that i am wrong, but i really don't think i am. seems like usc is always being investigated for something, and maybe carroll sees his run of not being caught about to end. but if everything there is all good, and carroll truly is doing everything right, i'll be blown away if he leaves that job. especially with the state the seahawks are in.

Seattle radio sports jocks are talking like Carroll is basically a done deal and was so before the Hawks cut Mora. There is some type of protocal that has to take place I don't understand before any announcements can be made...according to them. But this is still a rumor.

kind of seems like the rat jumping off of the sinking ship to me. i don't think this is a very good hire for seattle. carroll is a damn good college coach, mainly because he can recruit with the best of them. but those skills mean jack in the nfl. he failed there before and i don't see how this time would be different.

He was 27-21 in New England with a couple of playoff appearances. Clearly not the record he had with USC, but also not that bad. If by fail you mean he didn't win a Superbowl, then I guess he did which would put him in a group with 99% of all NFL coaches.c.falls cat wrote:kind of seems like the rat jumping off of the sinking ship to me. i don't think this is a very good hire for seattle. carroll is a damn good college coach, mainly because he can recruit with the best of them. but those skills mean jack in the nfl. he failed there before and i don't see how this time would be different.

Re: Seattle fires Mora....hires Pete Carroll?
couple thoughts i have. for carroll to leave, things at usc may be closing in fast. look for reports of more recruiting violations, athletes given gifts and money, and probably other violations. i wouldn't be surprised if they take back some of their wins and bowl games after an investigation. (which i think is really lame!)
but here's what is really bothering me. the nfl has the rule in place where teams have to interview a minority coach before hiring correct? well, it looks as though the carroll deal is done, yet they haven't interviewed a minority yet. they are trying to set up one with the vikes d coordinator frazier, but he says he only will interview if there is a chance of getting the job. that makes sense right? to me this is just a slap in the face. if i was a minority given the chance at an interview, i'd turn it down. anyone know what seattle would be faced with if everyone they contact refuses to interview?

lets not forget that the patriots were in the super bowl the year before he took over and that he replaced bill parcels. he lasted three years before he got fired, he managed only one year as hc for the jets before he got canned. was he the worst? no, but i wouldn't say he was a success.Cledus wrote:He was 27-21 in New England with a couple of playoff appearances. It's a matter of money folks he will make $35 million in five years, substantially more than at USC. It has nothing to do with recruiting violations at USC.

he's been offered far more money than he was making at usc each of the last 5+ years. always turned it down. to say that the current investigations couldn't have played at least a small part is interesting to me.Weltercat wrote:It's a matter of money folks he will make $35 million in five years, substantially more than at USC. The Seahawks are requrired to interview a minority candidate before they can hire a non-minority...like Carroll.

Satisfied the Rooney Rule by interviewing the Minnesota Viking DC.
I'm lukewarm on Carroll. Great college coach but just hasn't proven it on the NFL level. Rumor is his claimed the reason for his previous failures was that he didn't have control over the player selections. Rumor is he'll have some if not all the say on the players with Seattle.
As far as Mora is concerned, I was a bit surprised by the firing. I thought that if he were to be let go it would be after a new GM was in place and I thought he would at least be given one more year. On hearing of the firing my first thought for a replacement was Gruden.
Whomever is the new coach they've got their hands full. Lots of problems to address. D-Line, O-Line, running back, secondary. Is Matt the QB? Big Walter return? Does Lofa return to form after his injury?

I think he will do great. He is apparently going to be the seahawk president as well.
