Merlin Olson passes away

Post by HelenaCat95 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:35 am

Anyone who grew up in my era remembers Merlin Olson as both a GREAT FB player, and also as the gentle giant on Little House on the Prairie.

He'll be missed.

Truly one of the good guys. I was a little young to remember his NFL career, but when you look at his numbers, they're extremely impressive. And he was great behind the mike. Comfort and peace to his family.

His neice, Brooke, was a really good VB player for the cats back in the late 90's. Condolances to the family.

My father has always been a huge Rams fan, and the "Fearsome Foursome" were his favorites, especially Olsen. The football world loses a great man.

RIP, a great man on and off the field. Also very intelligent, as I recall he was a Rhodes Scholar.

I heard Merlin Olson passed away today on ESPN radio, and the first thing that came to mind was:

Ron: "I'm very important, uh, I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany. I-- I'm friends with Merlin Olson, too. He comes over on occasion."

He will always live forever in Anchorman.
RIP

I think you don't get it. Sleeping in until 6 won't get many people very far in life, especially if they want to play on Sunday.

His turn in the 70's movie "Mitchell" was pretty good, too.

RIP Merlin. One of the truly great sportsmen in my book.

He'll also be remembered for a long time in Logan, Utah, where Utah State recently renamed the football field "Merlin Olsen Field".

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.
