Bigger than miracle on ice?

Post by WORM » Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:58 pm

The U.S. soccer team is ahead 1-0 with 20 minutes to go against Spain. This win would be a bigger upset than the miracle on ice.

I'll have three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper... and some cheese.

I didn't know we had a soccer team!

Aren't all soccer games required to finish 1-0?

So, was this for some kind of championship, or trophy, or bragging rights or something?

Okay, I care and I'm certainly happy for the US.

But is Spain that big of a soccer power? I mean, they're no Brazil, correct?? (My lack of soccer knowledge is clearly showing, I recognize).

It is for the confederated Cup. The top teams from around the World play For it. Spain was 1st in the world and had not lost a international match in 38 games. Brazil is 2nd, and who we will probably play in the championship game now.

Niiiiice.

(It's still cannot even be mentioned in the same volume -- say nothing about same sentence -- as the Miracle on Ice).

Ahhh.. the coveted Confederated Cup. Good for the US. Better than the Miracle on Ice? Nope.

I can still name several players from the 1980 Hockey Team. Can't name one American soccer player past or present, unless you count that guy that's married to a Spice Girl.

This is not bigger than the Miracle on Ice. The players in that hockey game were a bunch of juniors and college players. This isn't even the biggest U.S. upset in soccer. It's huge, don't get me wrong, but had this been in the actual World Cup then it might be just behind the Miracle on Ice.

Did I ever say it was bigger than the Hockey Game??? No. Al I did was post a score. I think it is great for U.S. Soccer. If we win against Brazil it will be the first Major Tourney the U.S. team has ever one I think.

This is also World Cup qualifying, for the record. Don't take it lightly.

Spain is ranked #1 in the world right now. Spain won the UEFA championship last year.
Brazil is still a very good team but the European teams dominate the top of the rankings right now.

that is because u care about hockey. i cant name a single player on the hockey team. this isnt as significant a win, but i believe a bigger upset. we lost 0-3 to the 2nd best team in the prelims. the hockey team lost 0-6 or something to russia, the best team before the olyimpics. personal opinion i guess. I do realize for all out there though that this is not as significant a win. strictly upset win
