Daytona 500 or NBA All-Star Game?
I see a poll on ESPN asking fans what they will watch today. NBA-ASG, Daytona, Olys, hang out with sign. other, and all of the above. Everything is ahead of Daytona. Sign. other 26%, NBA 23%, Oly's 21%, All 16%, Daytona 15%.

frankly i won't have a real interest in either. i definitely won't watch nascar as my opinion is that it is a ridiculous "sport". but although i love basketball, the all-star game doesn't do a whole lot for me either. i'll probably flip to it a few times to see if there are any crazy plays, but other than that i really don't care. i also want to check out how many fans they fill that stadium with. but to be honest i don't watch a whole lot of sports now 'till the college hoops conference tournies and then the big dance.
do you have to know everything to post here? or just think you do?

Palin said there's no bigger Americana event than the Daytona 500. Call me unpatriotic
I'm watching Olympics, and watched the closing minutes of the EWU/griz game.

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.

I tried to watch a little Daytona today but couldn't. I'm not someone who watches much of it but can acknowledge some level of entertainment level but how can you be delayed that long because of potholes? To me this is like that preseason game with Baltimore and Philidelphia at the old Veterans Stadium. The turf was so bad that the Ravens refused to play and called the game. The problem is this would have been in the Super Bowl. Daytona is Nascars' biggest event. How can they let the track deteriorate that bad?

It wasn't the fact that Daytona neglected the track, the problem was due to the heavy rains they've experienced lately. I think most of the nation has experienced excess weather patterns recently, sh!t happens. The City of Bozeman can't make South 8th driveable at 25 mph.bcats wrote:I tried to watch a little Daytona today but couldn't. Re: Daytona 500 or NBA All-Star Game?
I ended up watching a little bit of all three. The Olympic moguls were by far the most entertaining. There really is no comparison -- mogul skiers are by far the best skiers from each discipline. (The winner -- Bilodeau -- is a distant relative and a Butte dude got the bronze).
The NBA game had 108,000 people at it and a number of mind-numbing plays as usual -- they are the best athletes in the world. I'm just not a big All-Star game fan anymore. The baseball ASG used to be great, but I think the NBA has it beat now. NFL game is a joke.
Daytona had a close finish, but then every NASCAR race is close, which is the problem with NASCAR. Most sporting events can be decided early or late, which leaves you more satisfied when they have a close game.

Olympics and a little college basketball. Haven't watched an NBA game in years. I try to catch a little of the Daytona, but completely forgot about it this year.

Slightly off topic, but did anyone happen to catch "Jimmie Johnson 24/7" (I think that's what it was called), which was a 4-part series on HBO? I'm not much of a NASCAR fan, but it really was intriguing to get sort of a behind the scenes look at the sport. It gave me an entirely new appreciation for it, seeing all the preparation and attention to detail that is involved. Definitely worth a look for anyone, whether you like NASCAR or not.canyoncat wrote:Olympics and a little college basketball. Haven't watched an NBA game in years. I wouldn't say that is a problem with NASCAR. Actually I would say that's one of the main draws of NASCAR.
I also tried to watch the race a little bit and have to agree that a pothole should not be a reason to delay the biggest race in America for two hours or whatever it was. This isn't South 8th in Bozeman and if I'm not mistaken it always rains alot at Daytona. The track hasn't been paved since Jimmy Carter was president.
