I don't think it is discrimination, I think it's just the way he plays.
I watched probably 8-10 BYU games on tv this year, and never once did I find myself marveling at Jimmer's quick burst or jumping ability. He definitely didn't seem to be slower than everyone else, but it was his shooting from 35 feet, not his quick slashing moves to the hoop that really stood out.
Additionally, like the article states, Jimmer pretty much mailed it in on defense. If he is a stellar athlete with great speed and agility, he certainly didn't put it on display on the defensive end of the court.
