What the Griz are spending their research Money on!

Post by mslacat » Fri Nov 17, 2006 2:16 pm

Below is a fine article on what our dear Griz are spending there valuable research money. Training bees to follow Griz logos.

http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2006 ... news01.txt

In a side note: It has taken some Montana State researchers to actually find a useful purpose for the Griz Bee research. They will be unvailing their final version at half time of Saturday's Cat / Griz . The MSU experts have crossed the the Missoula Griz chasing Bees with African killer bees.

And the best quote from the article:
“It's pretty amazing,” said Rita Munzenrider, director of university relations for the University of Montana. “The Bozeman fans probably won't like it much, but they could always train bees to do the same thing for them, I guess.”
Yeah we probably could if we didn't have a life and looked like Fabio with dark hair. I am so jealous that we spend our research dollars on finding new ways to deliever pharmaceuticals to the body, ways to improve buildings from falling down, and ways to grow better crops to feed the people of the world and they train bees to follow a logo. So smart! Maybe they can add that to the flea circus going on in Monte's costume!

This is actually an amazing project, and has scientists around the world fascinated. The bees are being trained to do a number of things, including yes, finding their way through a maze using Griz logos. But the most impressive things are that they have trained bees to locate hidden land mines and explosives. In addition, they can train them to recognize the scent of thousands of different chemical and biological agents, and DISTINGUISH between them. That's remarkable, and the potential uses are staggering.

Oh, and don't rip on these projects too much. Although UM holds the majority of the patents, some are being done in conjunction with MSU.

I don't even know what the hell this means. But if you question what the UM is accomplishing with this program (or just are unwilling to accept it) I cannot help you. I encourage you to seek professional help.

Wow GrizinWashinton...it's Friday, it's Cat/Griz week, lighten up and laugh a little. We are just having a little fun with the article. Can they train the bees to find you a sense of humor?
