Front Runner Schweitzer
I can tell you one thing Brian is front runner in, worst dressed governor in the 50 states. The man has no respect for protocol and for representing the citizens of Montana with dignity and class.
I have seen him dressed in jeans, western cut shirt, bolo tie and some sort of sport coat standing along side Gov. Fruedenthal of Wyoming and he embarrassed the hell out of me since he was Montana's governor. Fruedenthal was appropriately dressed in a dk blue suit with a decent tie.
Come on, bolo ties are for old time cowboys that never could figure out the proper way to tie a necktie. I personally think his dog Jake has more dignity than BS and I think he is a disgrace as a MSU graduate.

So you like the Governor, then?Cats Back wrote:I can tell you one thing Brian is front runner in, worst dressed governor in the 50 states. The man has no respect for protocol and for representing the citizens of Montana with dignity and class.

Griz In Wa
I guess my dislike of BS comes through loud and clear. To me he is disrespectful of his position and the responsibilities it holds.
He is branding himself for a national office but then I think he is branding himself as a fool.

Let's go through this slowly ... pols like to make appearances at large gatherings of constituents. Schweitzer has made appearances at BOTH MSU and UM games this year.Htowngriz wrote:Again, why would he need to get on the good side of Missoulians? It's a largely democratic city, it would make more sense to support the team in Bozeman if he's trying to earn votes.cats2506 wrote:So now we can add liar to the list of what you are.Htowngriz wrote:Does the title not give it away? Do you really expect a political media whore to stay away from any gathering of people where ever they are. Other politicians do the same, I just dont understand what you are trying to get at with this thread.Htowngriz wrote:First of all, I'm not smacking the cats, I'm smacking Schweitzer, I just figured this would end up here. Second, it's fine if wants to support the state of Montana, but wouldn't it make more sense for him to support his alma mater first, and their hated rivals second?
Go back to my first post on this thread and start over.
It's not an either/or thing ... it an "and" thing. For, you see, AND gives you bigger numbers than OR. OR is dumb. AND is not dumb.

I agree on the worst dressing thing.Cats Back wrote:I can tell you one thing Brian is front runner in, worst dressed governor in the 50 states. The man has no respect for protocol and for representing the citizens of Montana with dignity and class.

But having heard him speak in an intimate setting, he is at least articulate and can command a room's attention quite well. He also does seem to be quite intelligent and educated on the issues that face the state. Like all pols, he's got a lot of fluff in lieu of substance in some of the things he says, but I was overall impressed with him from my conversations with him. He also made me feel appropriately dressed (as most of the older folks showed up in suits, and us younger tech company types showed up in business casual after work).

Dress appropriately
When representing Montana at a formal meeting of the western regional governor's conference, denim, bolo ties, trashed cowboy boots and sport coat does not constitute appropriate attire. Hell I know restaurants that would boot him dressed like that.
Brian is very political and will be more than happy to tell you what you want to hear when speaking with him one on one. Besides the fact that he and his brother Walt are know to bully they way around the legislature.
They administer the state more like a union hall than like a state capital and there are many legislators from both parties that will confirm that.

Re: Dress appropriately
I based my opinions of him based on the substance of what he said. Don't worry, I wasn't simply charmed by his pretty talk. I am naturally very skeptical of pols, and I made many mental notes of things that he glossed over to advance the theme he was trying to carry.Cats Back wrote:When representing Montana at a formal meeting of the western regional governor's conference, denim, bolo ties, trashed cowboy boots and sport coat does not constitute appropriate attire. But since the thrust of his talk was creating jobs for Montana, and as the things that he was saying that he wanted to do did make sense, I was impressed. I think there are additional things that could be done that he didn't embrace, but I did like most of what he did endorse. He seems quite sincere in his desire to improve the economy of the state. Whether he's doing that to get attention or whether he's doing that purely out of the goodness of his heart (not something common to any pol in recent memory), I don't really care.
But I agree with you on the dress part, again. The cowpoke look doesn't impress me, either. But some people go for that boots and jacket look. If that's sincerely his style and not just a costume, I can probably live with it, as long as his policies aren't too terrible.

ACK! If I ever get to be Governor, you can mark my words that I will not be wearing any GRIZ apparel. Can't he just show up at the game in the same tired outfit he wears everywhere else? Like I said before in this thread, when he was at the Cat games, we got the blue jean/bolo ensemble. Whatever.
The two times I have heard him speak - he was the guest speaker at 2 different groups' functions - he totally turned the topic around to his own agenda. He was brought there to help celebrate these organizations' accomplishments, and they got 2% of his speech. The coal/new energy talk got the other 98%. People were looking around confused. I don't know....I guess that's what politicians do, but it wasn't received well at either function. "Yes, you guys (who are you?) are doing great....but here's what I want to do......"

As much as it pains me to admit, Schweitzer had other business in Missoula besides the football game. He also went down to Milltown where cleaning up the old dam. On the other hand, I happened to see Schweitzer when he just arrived outside the stadium and he already had a Griz coat on different than the one in the picture above. So, he actually owns more than one Griz coat. I'm sure he's a Griz fan at heart, but you have to go to Bozeman to study farming.
