Fifty Things I Hate about Helena

Might as well include Helena in these topics. As the original writer said about Missoula, I can probably think of 10 things I like about Helena for every 1 I hate.... ok, maybe only 7.

No Sports Bars since Club 77 went out of business. (Sorry, but Bleacher's just doesn't cut it)

The drivers who run EVERY red turn arrow in town and then get defensive when the green light traffic starts moving.

Town Pump. The number of gas stations I will use is decreasing rapidly as Town Pump acquires more Mom and Pop shops. And seriously, does East Helena really NEED three Town Pump casinos?

Casinos and especially their new Vegas-style, blinding LED readerboards. And which one is advertising a Vegas-style slot tournament? Ummm, isn't that illegal?

The neverending wait times at new restaurants. It's like Helenans have never seen a Chili's.

Beggars who won't accept a job offer. I told one at Van's Thriftway I'd pay him $20 to rake leaves for a couple of hours. He told me he makes 5 times that much standing there for 2 hours.

The mall. If you can call it that.

I like the Helena Brewer's, although I wish they'd form an affiliation with the Mariner's instead. I'd be at every game instead of 10 or 12 a season.

I know there's more... but even after all that, anytime I go on a trip, I can't wait to get back to Helena.

I'm a Helena native, spent the first 26 years of my life there except for MSU and I really like Helena- close to the mountains and you can't beat the proximity to Hauser, Holter & Canyon Ferry. Too much government and politics for my blood, but to be expected in the capitol city. If I didn't live in Bozeman I'd probably take Helena as second choice.

Agree about the waiting times at new restaurants. Shoot for the first couple of months IHOP was about impossible to get in.

Way too many casino's

What's a sports bar? The Motherlode?

Idiot drivers who ignore stop signs, get killed and it isn't their fault!

Downtown Parking

Deer

How many buildings does Mountain West Bank need? They already have what 5?

No more horse racing (however I have accepted that and am moving on)

Carroll College

Admire what they have done, but the fans are getting to me. Alot of them think they can beat the Cats and give the Griz a run for their money.

Government Employees and all the dang holidays they get to take off!

The branding of Helena calling it the "Western learning center for the arts" or what ever they call it.

No more Octoberfest!

Will not bring in good concerts (If Dillon can do it, why can't Helena?)

I can probably come up with more, but don't have time. Over all it's a good town with lots to do in the surrounding area's.

I'm not big on casinos anywhere and don't hit any of the ones in Bozeman, but I do enjoy the fact that you can have a few beers and grab something to eat in Helena and play keno. I don't think there's anywhere in Bozeman with keno. Never have figured that one out.

Jester's Bar - what a s.hithole. I went there one night with some friends who lived on First. I ran the pool tables for about 2 straight hours and kept getting the "I'm going to kick your ass" look from all the tattoed losers in the place who either didn't bring their A-game or didn't have an A-game to bring.

Hate the game not the player, meth-heads.

I think most of them if not all have keno. Could be wrong though

That downtown is a ghost town after 5:30 pm. Helena has a cool downtown, but it need some life.
