If the cats have more national championships, tomcat88 raised a good point in the posts above. It wasn't until 1964 or so that the Cats joined the same conference as the Griz. At one time, the Griz were in the same conference with USC, UCLA, Washintgon, etc., while the Cats were playing little-guy football with the small schools. To say "the cats have more national championships" than the Griz is kind of like saying "Carroll has more national championships" than the Griz. It's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Carroll does have more national championships than you. (and us) (and after Saturday, both of us put together).

Linked from the NAIA site, look at the top name under the column "Champion"

I believe that it is still true that MSU is the only school to have won a Football National Championship and every level they have played at.

Since a Griz fan brought up the topic.

Here is a fun little fact from the 50's :D

The Bobcats had a nice little win streak going from '52-'55. I know, wow 4 games. The fun little fact is that MSU was classified as NAIA during those years and UM was considered NCAA University Division (Major College). So, Griz fans understand the significance, it would be like Carroll beating USC.

Kinda funny how several of the fiz fans( I'm not saying everyone so take it easy) on this board try to tear down the title in 1956. What were the fiz doing that year? Obviously not playing in any kind of title game

We'd have heard about it a zillion times if they had. Any way you cut it the Cats achieved more that year than the fiz did. Get used to it! Show the class that fiz fans supposedly have. Here's your opportunity to be classy! Take it.

A case of CAT envy if I've ever seen it!

And there is a reason the Griz couldn't hack it against those schools, and moved down later. And we just kept moving up divisions because we outgrew them.

=D^

Here is my take.....regardless of what the score was we were awarded the championship. According to Griz logic, shouldn't griz fans be happy for us as this is a good thing for the state of Montana and the BSC????????

That being said........

One would think, but employing 'fiz logic' the outcome becomes well....shall we say 'self serving"? #-o
