Unless you can match us at any major sport

Post by PDXGriz » Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:42 am

It's best to just shut your mouth.

Football - enough said.

Women's basketball - enough said.

Men's basketball - 6 recent NCAA appearances vs 1. And a 5-1 record in the last 6 meetings at that.

This is why we don't take little brother seriously. No one does.

Was that intentional to list UM as #1 on your "laughing stock of college athletics"? I can't disagree with you there! =D^

Well, more fans showed up to watch each Lady Griz game than showed up at R.H. Sales to watch each Bobcat football game until maybe five or six years ago. Multiply that by 15 home games per year for the Lady Griz, and NCAA tourney money each year ... yeah, I'd call that a major sport (unless you want to argue that Bobcat football wasn't a major sport when its fan attendance was dwarfed by the Lady Griz).

Are you saying average or total attendance? When did the lady griz avg.7000 per game? Are you specifically comparing the Lady Griz of '03-'04 to, lets say, the 2000 MSU football attendance. You might be right in that one case but I'll let you go ahead and find those stats. You'll have time tonight because it doesn't seem like you will have anything else to do.

Ok. maybe for a montana school it is a major sport. i guess i was looking at the big picture, which is hard for some of you to do. I dont consider a sport major if a common sports fan cant name a single athlete in that sport. I follow sports pretty closely and cant name a single womens basketball player in college. How major is that?

Using that same logic, um football wasnt a sport in the 70's

I don't believe that was my logic, but let's say for a moment that it was. If we need to cherry pick and find the darkest decade of the program, like the 1970's, the Griz still one an outright conference championship and had a trip to the venerable old "Camelia Bowl." In head-to-head competition against the cats, it was a miserable run of 3 wins and 7 losses for the Griz, but by no means a losing streak of a decade or two. So if you want to arge UM didn't have football as a sport in the 70's, I'd have to ask, has MSU ever had football as a sport?
