Time will tell. But he's 8-1 with his own recruits, and personally, I like our chances at 10-1 with a top 2 seed, and a very good opportunity to go to Nooga.

So my question is this: When exactly does Hauck get credit for what Hauck is doing? This year's success is being done almost exclusively with his guys, his recruits. If he wins a NC will he get respect? What will it take, exaclty?

College football isn't like the pros. You can't just let the program run itself, because the kids creating the success you inherited are gone faster than you can say "Chattanooga". But I suspect that cat fans will never respect BH, and you know, I can certainly live with that. HAUCK HAS BEEN THERE WHAT 3 YEARS? TOOK OVER AFTER THE 2002 SEASON? AND GLEN HAD RECRUTED GUYS LIKE MIKE MURPH, LEX HILLARD, TYSON JOHNSON, TUFF HARRIS, MATT LEBSOCK, KERRY MULLAN, RYAN WELLS, DUSTIN DLOUHY, JEFF MARSHAL. ALL REDSHIRTS IN GLENS LAST SEASON!!!!! Speaking of #38, is anyone else as impressed as I am by what the Griz are doing without the best RB in the country? Brady Green is great, but he certainly isn't Lex.

Cat fans have a strange hatred for Hauck that's reminiscent of Swilly. What is it about BH that makes you hate so much? I hear things like sore winner and sore loser but what are the reasons behind them? If there are, and maybe they exist, please fill me in.

Hauck and Kramer are both good coaches and recruiters. Kramer arrived in Bozeman to find a demoralized program, didnt' win a single game his first season, and yet managed to turn the Bocats into a feared BSC team. Period. The end. How he builds on that success we'll see.

Bobby Hauck has continued the success of a top college program by taking them to the playoffs every year and making an NC appearance in his 2nd season. The only game he's lost this year is to Iowa and I'd bet we're headed to the playoffs again. It's my belief that he'll continue the Griz coaching tradition of recent years by moving up if he goes anywhere. I seriously doubt he will be asked to leave.

The notion that either of these coaches suck is completely lost on me.

I find it funny that the two top BSC teams are actually bitching about their crappy coaches.

TG, my dislike for Bobbie is in the fact that he has never shown respect for the Bobcat program. He didn't accept defeat in '03 like he should have and didn't again last year. He may not be "asked" to leave, but if the situation that I described occurs, don't be surprised if he doesn't return. um and Bobbie can describe this in whatever manner they choose. "We've decided to go a different direction", "I've decided to pursue other opportunities", whichever. But if Hauck loses to CP, MSU and in the first round, he is gone.

You know full well as I do, that making it to the NC his second year has been his saving grace. Yes, he is in his fourth year and doing well. But this isn't the offense of Read, Dennehy or Glenn and its going to catch up with the U. If I am wrong, then I will fully admit it. But I just don't think that this team has the talent and more importantly, the game planning from its' coaching staff to go all the way. Sorry, just my opinion.

I will say that since I have joined this forum, I have a little more respect for the griz faithful. The griz fans who post here are unlike the griz fans I have to deal with in Missoula. The fans here are intelligent, respectful and don't quite have the blinders on as tight as most in Zootown. A compliment to you, Billingsgriz and a host of others. Makes it almost hard to root against you, which isn't like me.

HTG, you guys have done very well without Hilliard and it was a complete shame to see him get hurt. I've said for the last two years that he is the best back in I-AA. I do think that you will REALLY miss him come the playoffs. To me, this is what will keep you from winning number three IMHO.

I've heard the charge before that Hauck didn't accept defeat to the Cats nor respects their program. I'm not saying it didn't happen but what exactly was said/transpired that justifies this charge? Like I said, may be true and correct but I haven't seen it.

As far as our offense goes you're right. They're not the magicians of Read, Dennehy, or Glenn. But they usually put more points on the board than their opponent and manage to make the post season. And that's good enough in my book. Not everyone is Joe Glenn. But I think Hauck can recruit pretty well. Glenn was a great playing coach but the cupboard was a little bare when he left with the exception of Ochs, Hilliard.........wait, when I write those two names alone I realize I should probably shut up about Glenn's recruiting. :)

I'm not trying to piss on Glenn's recruiting ability but at the time the players you mentioned signed up when Montana was the be-all-to-end-all of I-AA football. That's not smack but a plain and simple truth. It's a testament to Glenn's success but at that point in time I doubt he had to try to hard to convince them to come to Montana.

Doesn't it FEEL different to you, though? Honest question; not smack. In the Read/Dennehy days, you guys were sitting your QB's at halftime at a point where the Big Sky was FAR tougher than it is now. Now it seems almost every week, the almighty Griz are just 1 play away from a loss and/or are holding on for a 3 point win against the likes of ISU, WSU, SDSU, etc....

Oh, and don't forget about losing 3 of the last 4 to us!

You can tout Bobby's accomplishment's all you want but I would think you're man enough to admit the program is NOT at the level it once was...?

No question, Hells, but READ built what Bobby is reaping the benefits from. READ started from scratch; he took over a less-than-average program and turned them into a powerhouse that routinely BEAT DOWN bad teams, not just squeaked by with 3 point wins thanks to interception returns or blocked FG's, etc. etc. I only brought up Dennehy because his teams seemed to throttle weaker opponents as well, not because I think he was a great (or even good) coach. Dennehy's tenure at Utah State proves the theory many of us have about Bobby; he is the beneficiary of a powerful PROGRAM and, to his credit, he has kept that at/near the top. That does not, however, prove that he is a great coach. If he stays and continues to win at his current level and makes a few more title games, then the argument that he is a great coach will have more legs.

Don't worry; if/when Bobby moves up, he'll no doubt take over a bottom-tier DI team and THEN we'll see how good a recruiter/coach he is. I'm betting it will look a lot like Dennehy's career at USU.

It DOES feel different, but that's only because it's a completely different style of football. Montana used to win with pure offense. We'd simply outscore everyone. If they got 40, UM would get 50. And I'll admit, that makes for exciting football.

But you're kidding yourself if you don't think there were plenty of close calls in those days. Casual fans don't remember them, but believe me, I remember sweating out any number of close games against inferior teams. If the black mark on the Griz program is that, "Well, they win all their games, go to the playoffs every year, compete for NC every other year or so, but MAN, their games are close!", I'll take it EVERY day, thank you. Your entire statement just proves how solid the program is: if the only negative thing you can say is that BH wins all the close games.

Besides, is it really that easy to just take over a success program and let it roll? If so, what happened to Washington after Don James left? How about North Carolina BB after Dean Smith left? Notre Dame after their stream of good coaches left? I could go on and on with the examples. In college athletics, where you get new players every year, you simply cannot be a guy who just fills the head coaches seat.

The conference was definitely tougher during the Read days, but no the Dennehy days - MSU was not good, and Sac, PSU, and CS Northridge were basically the UNC's of Dennehy's time.

Remember Dennehy was the last coach to not win at least a share of the BSC, lost 3 straight 1st round playoff games, and went 8-4, 8-4, and 9-3 in his last 3 seasons. The point is we always remember the past more fondly than we actually experienced it. Look at all the negative comments about Glen when he was at Montana, fans upset about hiring a D-II coach, upset about the opening loss to Hofstra, upset for sticking with Edwards, claims of letting Cliff Edwards buy his kid the starting job, etc.

When Bobby does finally leave we will remember him fondly as well.

GrizinWa,

There may have been the occassional close game, but how many times have we heard griz fans bash Lulay's career #'s because of ALL THE TIMES Dickinson was on the bench after halftime? To listen to many of you, you'd think the Griz won every game by 40 so yes, that does cloud my memories of the 90's Griz. I totally agree with you, though, that those teams were offense-oriented as opposed to what Glenn started and Bobby has continued with tough defensive teams. I do have another question for you: Did Bobby come in as an O or D strategy guy? In other words, did he come to Missoula touting one side of the ball over the other? I don't recall him doing so but maybe some of you closer to the program do. I bring it up because I always laugh about Brian Billick in the NFL; he went to Baltimore as this supposed offensive genius yet his teams historically have been pretty poor offensively and won a Super Bowl because of a great defense.

The bottom line is that in my book, Bobby needs to either continue his winning ways another 3+ years with the Griz or move up and turn around a DI program in order to earn the accolades so many griz fans are already lauding on him. I'll also add here that I won't label Kramer as a great coach yet but I will say he's been great for MSU football & MSU athletics overall...

I'm not saying Bobby's a bad coach but I am saying he's not proven anything other than he is capable of taking a well-oiled machine and not mucking it up. To be considered a good or even great coach he either needs to win a I-AA title or two OR go to a bad DI program & turn them around, like Read did when he took over the Griz...

"Demoralizes this fact?"

I really hate it when the morale of my facts suffers.

This is (presumably) from a liberal arts school student. But what would I know? I'm just a dopey mathematician.
Made sense to me?

Look up the definition and the context in which it was used. Typical lame responses from kitty fans.

Let me spell it out for ya...

Due to not making the playoffs, the loss to Chadron further makes your morale suffer. It was suppose to be a cream puff win, but the loss is going to cost you.

Dopes!

Yeah, TBS, you can't "demoralize" a fact; it isn't a person or a team, it has no morale or morals.

I'm pretty sure you were trying to say "demonstrate".

Now you know why they call it dope.
