Doesn't it FEEL different to you, though? Honest question; not smack. In the Read/Dennehy days, you guys were sitting your QB's at halftime at a point where the Big Sky was FAR tougher than it is now. Now it seems almost every week, the almighty Griz are just 1 play away from a loss and/or are holding on for a 3 point win against the likes of ISU, WSU, SDSU, etc....
Oh, and don't forget about losing 3 of the last 4 to us!
You can tout Bobby's accomplishment's all you want but I would think you're man enough to admit the program is NOT at the level it once was...?
It DOES feel different, but that's only because it's a completely different style of football. Montana used to win with pure offense. We'd simply outscore everyone. If they got 40, UM would get 50. And I'll admit, that makes for exciting football.
But you're kidding yourself if you don't think there were plenty of close calls in those days. Casual fans don't remember them, but believe me, I remember sweating out any number of close games against inferior teams. If the black mark on the Griz program is that, "Well, they win all their games, go to the playoffs every year, compete for NC every other year or so, but MAN, their games are close!", I'll take it EVERY day, thank you. Your entire statement just proves how solid the program is: if the only negative thing you can say is that BH wins all the close games.
Besides, is it really that easy to just take over a success program and let it roll? If so, what happened to Washington after Don James left? How about North Carolina BB after Dean Smith left? Notre Dame after their stream of good coaches left? I could go on and on with the examples. In college athletics, where you get new players every year, you simply cannot be a guy who just fills the head coaches seat.
