Butte was number 30 in the top 200 towns in the NATION for cost of living and hunting and fishing access. Butte was the only larger city in MT on the list.

i will tell you this. I make the 1.5 hour drive to visit my folks at least once a month, and the water is great but they are on a well.

Isn't a good portion of Butte's water pumped over the mountains from The Big Hole River between Divide and Wise River?

The best thing about Butte is their history. They have the best history of all the cities in the state. Maybe even the whole northwestern U.S.

I'm surprised no one has said Pork Chop John's.

As far as fireworks, I would be surprised if they were better than Laurel's. However, I've never seen Butte's so I don't know. Laurel's is very impressive though.

I have seen Laurels and they are great but there is no comparison, Butte is bordering on ridiculous.

When you go uptown around 5 pm or so on the 3rd of July and everyone up there is lighting off fireworks until your ready to puke then they hit you with the big show at the "M" and you seriously get shell shocked. There are so many your mind goes goofy on ya.

As far as the water goes, I am on a well as well. The water there is awesome. Must be the copper tailings in the ground water.

That's not the fireworks Alpha, that's the water!

I'll vouch for Butte's fireworks display. NYC puts on a pretty impressive display over the East River, but the display over the M in Butte is every bit as good. I haven't seen Laurel's, though...

To add to the list of things I love about Butte:

1. Omlettes at the M&M (hope the new owners don't screw it up!)

2. Burgers at Matt's

3. Sheppard's candy.

4. Wop chops at the Freeway

5. Steaks at the Derby

6. Pasties...lots of good places.

7. The fact that, back in the heyday, there was a brothel less than two blocks from the high school.

8. And last but not least -- the people. I'm a little biased, but there're a lot of good folks there. Say what you will about the drinkin', the bar fightin', and what have you, but if you've got friends in Butte, they'll give you the shirt off their back if you need it.

If the guy who was the spokesman on the news the other night has anything to do with it, you can buy it this time next year

I've always described the people from Butte as the nicest in the world....until you piss em' off.

Didn't know about anything from the Anaconda area, but I'm pretty sure they have a line from the Big Hole river, I think it's actually between Dewey and Divide, maybe where that little dam is- never could figure out what the structures across the river from the highway were all about, maybe a pump station.

When I was younger, I used to LOVE Pork Chop John's. Then one day we ate their after a high school BB trip and jumped on the bus back to Helena. From that experience I learned 3 vital points, which I've carried through the rest of my life:

1. Undercooked pork is a bad thing

2. A Beach bus is a terrible place to be really, really sick.

3. I know longer like Pork Chop Johns.
