So its graduation week and everyone is downtown having a good time and two hot head bobcat football players(Jimmy Verlanic and Dane Fletcher) are running through the R bar picking fights with people. As a student I am concerned with the behavior of our student athletes and how they represent the university!

Does anyone else think this is a problem or do they feel its okay for the university to continue to overlook this deralick behavior so that we might win a few more games each season?

Hummmm, let me think. Graduation week or any other week for that matter and college kids are at a bar on main street in Bozeman..........SHOCKER!

Good grief man, give it a break.

The coaches can not personally babysit each and every athlete 24/7. So no they do not have complete control over every players actions all the time. Just like a parent can not have control over their own kids 100% of the time. The main difference is that both Ash, His players and coaches, are somewhat public figures, and public is watching them. What I would suggest is if you see the a player or players doing thing that you feel is not appropriate, and there is not a coach around, call, write, or email, either coach Ash or AD Fields and clue them in, they will take you seriously.

Nothing irritates me more than when after a kid (whether it is an athlete, or a neighbor kid) gets into trouble, and afterward the "I told you so" guy's come out of the wood work and tell you about all the bad thing they saw the kids do before they this happened. It is a little too late, doncha ya know!

Those girls need discipline and I am personally willing to work with them on an individual basis....

Pardon me, got off on a tangent there....that is upsetting to here that two of our leaders are behaving that way (assuming what you say is true). While we shouldn't be surprised that some football players act this way occassionaly, I expect more from these two - I think Fletcher has a chance to be special this year - and after watching the Classic, Verlanic's spare time would be better spent working on his shotgun snaps.

This post is rumor and inuendo! I agree, if you observe this type of behavior then get a hold of the Coach. I agree he will take it very seriously. Verlanic and Fletcher are first class kids and I have a hard time picturing them doing this.

If you are truly concerned about behavior that you believe is truly not appropriate, please contact the university or Coach Ash directly. Posting an anonymous post defaming people on a message board with no evidence of any kind to support your allegations is NOT the correct approach.

Moved to smack for that reason.

Someone comes on the board, with 7 posts to his name and posts bad things about two of our captains.......
until I see otherwise, I will put this in the "nasty, made-up rumor category".

Ya... I don't buy it. They may have been out having a good time... but neither of those two are the type to pick fights. Fletcher bounces for his dad sometimes at the Cannery... and because they're tough football players, they do have a target on their backs from drunken idiots in the bar who thing they're tough... so yes, unfortunatly football players do end up getting in fights occasionally. Shocker.

The immature kid who posted this is completely in the wrong for starting a rumor like this. Both jimmy and dane are great individuals and leaders, and for someone to get on here without facts and disgrace there names like that is wrong. I was at the R Bar last night and talked to dane and saw jimmy, they were just being college kids and having fun. Unless something happened outside of the bar that I didn't see, I'm going to have to say that whoever brought this up is full of it!... Grow up

Report it to the athletic department, Coach Ash or position Coaches.

I personally am skeptical of your story.

However, I have seen players (back in the day) being asses in the R bar, but I've also seen much more of the "target" mentality.

I was once in the R bar with a bunch of football players, and some dick wanted to pick a fight with us. He picked the smallest one of us, but he picked the wrong dude. Mark Reinhart (who, by the way, was one of the most gifted athletes I've ever seen) was a CB at the time before converting to RB, but was a freak in the weight room. Mark was one of the nicest, most complacent guys on the team, just enjoying a night off having a beer. This dickweed got right in his face, even took a couple of swings with Mark trying to back away. It finally ended with Mark giving one swift uppercut and knocking this a-hole clear out of his personal space into a different time zone.

I'm sure some observers thought "football players" were to blame.

On a lighter note, those Clemson girls are welcome in the R bar anytime.

All the years I worked in the bars, one thing was apparent....drunken athletes are no different than drunken general population....some like to puff their chests and start stuff and other mind their business. I'm guessing that the author of this thread has a problem with one of the players/or both
