why I don't like the griz
Well since it is the cat/griz week, I thought this topic would be suitable under the smack forum. It's pretty simple what I have to say. When it comes down to it, I never ever ever root for the griz; I don't even think it has to do all that much with griz athletics. Rather it is for the pure enjoyment I get when I see their fans lose. Finding a humble Griz fan is near impossible. Especially on this board when we have griz posters calling for mods to be favoralbe to a them on the CAT board, during the CAt/ griz week. I have to give my condolences to a couple griz posters such as REMax and well...I think that is all, ReMax is quite partial and is very constructive when he posts. Other than that, there are a few things that drive me nuts about griz fans.
1. Hardly any humility at all. Not all of them of course, but the majority I have run into in my life have been lease impressive. I've been at cat/griz games and even sitting in the middle of the players parents a griz will come in and run his mouth, yelling proffanities and picking fights. Now he may be the minority, but I've never seen another griz fan tell one of them to cool off. Not to mention, heaven forbid they get beat in a sporting event. You'll be apt to find more excuses than acceptances. It is their blind arrogance that bugs me the most.
2. Pertaining to this board. Lately it seems like so many quality threads turn into a cat/griz argument due to griz poster hi-jacking it. It gets really old. Especially when they have little constructive comments. This is the bobcat board and I come here looking for news on the cats, and often leave with just a bunch of cat/griz rhetoric.
3. Griz fans are like Boise State fans. I'm moved out to Nampa/Boise area three years ago after graduating to take a job. Growing up, I use to always root for Boise State. When I got here, I went to games and increasingly lost interest in rooting for them. After the fiesta bowl, not a day goes by when you don't hear about the bronco football team. Now, I find myself rooting against them, and I ask why? It is because the fans are so damn annoying. They think Boise State football is the best thing since sliced bread; that boise state could beat anybody ALL the time. Playing in the WAC doesn't help. This is the same reason I don't like the griz. Their fans drive me nuts.
4. On that argument...when one says the griz are overrated, and the griz defend themselves, but yet complain that the BSC is weak....I mean those two arguments are combative points. So which one is it?
This has just been festering for a while.
GO CATS!!!

After reading that I'd like to clarify something in case some of you have gotten the wrong impression of me. I am not an arrogant Griz fan. I am an arrogant person. Thanks for letting me clear that up.

I would like to take this time to apologize on behalf of all GRIZ fans. Sorry you only get that "pure enjoyment" once, maybe twice a year.Common Cat wrote:Well since it is the cat/griz week, I thought this topic would be suitable under the smack forum. Oh lord, it's hard to be humble....when you're perfect in EVERY way.
I happen to know that Remax is a closet Cat fan so that explains a lot.

I don't know if he's a cat fan but there is definitely a closet somewhere in there.

Its true you will be sitting on your ass at home as all Bobcat players and fans are doing once the playoffs roll around. But at least you can take joy in knowing that you didn't lose to Northern Colorado again this year.Common Cat wrote:For grizlaw.

BDizzle,
How did the Griz do in the playoffs last year? You know, we may not make the playoffs, that remains to be seen. I would rather have good season and not make the playoffs versus being ranked in the top 5 the whole season and lose at home to some no name team. The thing that amazes me about the Griz fans is that when you are winning, everything is great, the coach, the team the school. When you lose 1 game in the playoffs, next thing you know is you are asking for your coach's head on a stick.

And I love how the So Con conference champion -- a team who throttled Applaichan State -- is a "no name". Obviously a post be someone who knows NOTHING about FCS football.

One thing is for certain, the griz are the most over-rated program in all of FCS. Without question.GrizinWashington wrote:Well then, you're an idiot who shouldn't be entrusted with anything as sharp as a butter knife.CatFanForever wrote:BDizzle,

GrizinWashington,
Wofford then loses to Richmond the next weekend who then gets pummeled by App State the following weekend. If I had more time I am sure I could go back and find a way based on everybody's schedule how Wofford could have beat the Giants in the Superbowl.
Just admit the Griz are overrated and we can end this discussion.

Re: why I don't like the griz
Overrated? Good arguement for that. Sure, we've owned the BSC over the years and continue to get our asses beat in the playoffs by a East Coast team (w/ the exception on CP). Great win against Furman, not taking that away from ya.
With the number of schools west vs east, they have way more kids to choose from. A lot of the eastern FCS schools have kids that could play on west coast FBS schools. Heck, I bet App State, who will win it all again this year, would be in the top third of the WAC or MWC.
I guess what I'm trying to say is we (BSC--MSU, UM, Weber) wouldn't be "that good" in the east. Unless we were in the Ivy League, but your school sucks so we shouldn't go there... (smack forum, had to get a jab in there)
So I guess we'll continue to be at, or near, the top of the BSC and lose early in the playoffs. And when whoever beats us you can cheer, if it makes you feel better.

Glad to see there are some intelligent Griz Fans in Billings. Hell, if we were at the bar I would even buy you a drink after a comment like that. I agree totally about East versus West. I was listening to Ash last night and he made a good comment. We will never get the respect we deserve even if we go undefeated until we continue to have a good showing in the playoffs. Losing to Wofford, although celebrated by myself and all other Cat fans, does little for the Big Sky. With this new playoff system of 20 schools instead of 16 (2 more at large bids) it may help us have 3 teams but only if we have a good showing in the playoffs.
Just do me a favor and tell your fellow Griz fans to tone it down a little with their clothes. Nothing drives me more insane than seeing a griz fan from head to toe in Griz gear. A hat would let me know you are a fan and I would respect that. Head to toe lets me know you are an idiot. Trust me..I have a couple relatives that fit the latter.

Re: why I don't like the griz
You know, it was just two years ago that the Griz played in the National Semi-Finals, and just 4 years since they played in the Championship. It's not as though the Griz haven't gone deep in the playoffs recently. It's funny the cat fans never mention those years....
Montana has far more playoff wins this decade than anyone not named App State, and even that is very, very close.
