You & the NCAA$$$

Post by autocat » Mon Nov 24, 2008 11:04 am

I have to give you guys and the NCAA credit for working in conjunction with each other. You think you are seated #4 in the playoffs because your deserving, no actually the NCAA wants the money! Texas State is the worst team in the playoffs, they even lost to Southern Utah at home! The NCAA is serving Texas State to you on a platter, so you need to win big! The NCAA wants as much 1st 2nd and 3rd round money as possible! I have an idea, you guys should come put wearing new uniforms this week with $$$$$$ signs and NCAA written on the back!

OMG. Do we have to cover this ground again? Look, I know some of you aren't bright. But this isn't a difficult concept to understand. However, let me lay it out for you all one more time, and then hopefully we can all move on:

Money plays NO part in the seeding process. Now, is there anything unclear about that statement?

And auto, please give me any FCS team more deserving of a seed than Montana. Just one. But be prepared to support your pick with concrete arguments. As I posted on another thread, Montana could certainly make the argument they deserved the #3 seed, with a better GPI, better Sagarin, and better out of conference wins then #3 No. Iowa. But you won't hear any of us bitchin' and whinin' about that.

Please, auto. I'm very anxious to hear your thoughts on this.

Fixed it for you. 3 and 4 only can meet in NC Game.

oh sure... go mess up my smack with facts! I hadn't actually looked at the brackets even though I assumed they were on opposite sides.

So what team(s) do you think should've been seeded ahead of us?

And just to address the one obvious answer that you're going to give in advance -- with regard to Weber State, remember...they still finished 9-3. I know, I know...two of their losses were to I-A teams. But, two of their wins were also over a D-II and an NAIA school (Dixie State and Western Montana College), so while I give them their props for playing up, I also think they deserve to be penalized some for having two sub-IAAs on their schedule. If you give them a free pass on their losses to Hawaii and Utah, and if you ignore their two cupcake wins, then the only "real" games they played were their BSC schedule. Anyway, to make a long story short -- I think that even if Weber had beaten EWU, it would have been debatable whether they deserved a seed. Withthe loss to EWU, though, they are left with only 7 D-I wins, and at that point, if it wasn't for the autobid, it's not even clear that they would've gotten a playoff spot, much less a seed. Under those circumstances, I think seeding the Griz over Weber was the right call.

If you disagree, then state your case. If you have other teams that you think should've been ahead of us, then speak up.

Give the Cat fans a break, they have no real athletic success in the last 20 years. Wouldn't you be bitter too?

I am surprised someone helped them figure out how a bracket works.

Maybe someday they will need that info.

I think the NCAA probably lost money by seeding the Griz. By being seeded 4th there is only a minimum bid the Griz need to meet to have the home playoff game. If they got seeded 5th there is a bidding process. [-o< that I'm right.

I dont think thats right, The playoffs are run by the NCAA and they get the money, and pay um back for their expenses of hosting, those expenses are in the bid package that was sent in. I dont know if concessions fit in to that or not but playoff games are not money makers for the school.

I think the NCAA takes 80% after exspenses or something like that.

sounds about right as I remember it. So seeding does cost the NCAA money because we don't have to out bid a first round game to make sure we get it.
