More Griz Thuggery

For everyone complaining about how out football team supposedly isn't going to be any good this year... if that end's up being the case, at least we don't have the legal issues to worry about anymore, knock on wood. My Griz fan buddy sent me this article and he is PISSED. He's never been a Hauck basher but said this one is the final straw. Not so much that his players continue to acts like this but that his punishment was to make them work harder over the summer and miss the first game against the cream puff. What a joke. Serious question for any Griz fans on here - do you think Bobby has always treated player punishments appropriately and consistently? Thought he implemented a "zero tolerance" policy?

I'm pretty sure no one on this board is ready to throw stones since no one ended up face down in a field in this situation, but I'm a little disturbed by the dad who thought the player suffered enough because he wasn't quite sharp in last week's game

The responses by the students, coach, and dad scare me a little bit about the power of that program and what they are willing to do to protect it.

Our program has been raked over the coals for some of things that have happened, but UM seems to do a better job with their publicity/or lack of when the need arises.

here's the link that has a little more about the current situation.

http://www.montanakaimin.com/index.php/ ... s_surface/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
After the game against Western State, head coach Bobby Hauck said the two players were “unavailable to compete,” then refused to elaborate on the matter. On Tuesday, after the football team’s weekly press conference, Hauck was asked to comment about the allegations surrounding Johnson and Swink.

“You’re done for the day,” said Hauck, while covering up the tape recorder. “And you’ll be done for the season if you keep bugging me about this thing that I’ve answered four ****** times.”

Who cares that UM has some bad seeds, don't we all!! All you do when you create threads like this is stir up a hornet's nest when it happens to us(which it will).

It sounds like this incident happened quite a while ago, and all parties involved are satisfied with how it was handled.

Unfortunately the Kaimin obviously isn't satisfied... They have a pretty nasty history of being anti-football and having writers who try to pretend like they are investigative journalists breaking some big story. The stories by the Kaimin serve no purpose other than to stir up ****** on what must've been a slow day down there. That or maybe someone down there had a flash back to being picked last in Gym class for dodgeball and decided they wanted to take it out on the Griz FB team.

The fact is none of us know the full story, and neither does the Kaimin. All parties that were actually involved in the incident seem happy with how it was resolved, so why is this even an issue now? If I was Hauck, I'd be a bit annoyed at the Kaimin too since they seem to do nothing but post negative articles about the Griz.. and if they've been harassing him about this old news like they are on 60 minutes doing some sort of expose, then I can understand why he'd get a bit pissed at them and snap at them.

I dont think anybody here is saying much but this just sounds like talking points straight from BH

The Kaimin might be pushing the envelope on this issue and Hauck may have been a little justified in his outburst. But within that story, the reporter/writer also noted that he'd recently written an article stating that Jimmy Wilson deserved a second chance, and listed other instances where Kaimin reporters wrote positive stories about players under investigation. So, I don't think the Kaimin is "anti-football". You're right, nobody knows the whole story, not even the Kaimin.... but don't you suppose that's what they're trying to get? The whole story?

I sure hope that Dexter does not speak for the majority of Griz fans, of which I am one. I do not think he does. It pains me to read all of the posts on egriz from Griz fans trying to focus on whether these two players provoked the incident, etc. Instead, they should be focusing on the re-curring problem that Bobby Hauck has with criminal activities from his recruits, and his reluctance to face the issues straight-on, rather than to "handle things internally". To me, when a coach tries to keep an incident out of the media, he has problems that go much deeper than what is on the surface. I am personally ashamed of his actions related to this incident, as well as previous ones. Blasting a 20-year old student reporter with F-bombs is totally un-called for from a supposed leader of young men who is in the public eye. Winning should not supercede civility. But, it looks to me as if it does in this case. I wonder if Hauck's fan base would still support his actions if the team went 7-5 last season?

Amen

I have known about this for some time and trust me the punishment is nowhere near good enough. These guys deserved way worse for their actions, but the U came to the rescue and strong armed an agreement to keep it quiet.

When you know all the details it sickens you that these guys are on the field.

If this fight had the police show up, these two punks wouldn't have been worried about missing just the season opener. They may have done some time for assualt. Sounds like they messed him up pretty bad. Kicking a guy when he is down and out is just a tad over the top in my book.

It's a pattern and it will continue... mark my words. When Quinn got his umpteenth DUI AFTER the murder, drug raids, and gang -related beat downs... and AFTER Hauck implemented the zero tolerance policy... he got a slap on the wrist because he was an All American. These two got a slap on the wrist... missing the Western game and having to run harder over the summer. I remember when Jason Washington got booted off the team for missing a practice supposedly. I'm sorry, I know I don't have all the facts in all these cases and maybe this latest thing wwas just your basic frat party fight that got out of hand... but the way this $hit keeps popping up, and how Bobby handles things "internally" by calling the victim's dad... this just reeks. Since there were no arrest here, makes you wonder what else goes on that doesn't make the paper. My opinion.

Once again, not throwing stones here cause we all know we had some dark times in MSU athletics... but at least it looks like we've cleaned them up.

One thing to add. If Bobby wants to restore credibility over there he needs to make an example out of somebody once in awhile. I'd say that any player caught kicking somebody in the head after they're unconscious... I don't know, maybe they should miss the season?

That Oregon player (All American) just got kicked off the team for a year... if he's lucky, for throwing one punch.

Screw it.

I know for a FACT BH said " thanks for the information fellas, but lets see if we can keep this on the DL" then he made the down low sign with his right hand.

For those to slow to keep up like GinWa he was talking to a SGT in the Msla police dept when he made that statement.

This isnt hearsay.

This isnt second hand information.

This is fact.

This is how hauck rolls.

Hm...another Alpha alter-ego or just someone who loves to jump on any opportunity to bash Hauck? Do you happen to write for the Kaimin? :)

Why is it when all parties who were actually involved in the incident are happy with how it was resolved, there are always some people who weren't involved in the incident who want to continue to discuss it and whine about it?

Maybe Hauck was "blasting" the reporter with F-bombs (if that's even true) for dragging something up that was pretty much a non issue anymore, which is going to do nothing more than cause problems for everyone involved in the incident? Maybe Hauck is tired of being harassed by wannabe paparazzi acting like they are breaking watergate when really they are just drudging up crap that happens every day on campus? Not every minor incident between students on campus that doesn't even involve the police needs to be treated as breaking news. Sure, if these two students kicked the crap out of another student, arrests were made, etc etc and the issue wasn't resolved, then yes I'm all for it being in the newspaper. These articles seemed more like just attacks on the football program and Hauck though than actual journalism. For the record I'd be saying the same exact thing if it was about the Cats from their student newspaper... funny though seeing some (not all..and actually not even a majority) jump all over this and start throwing stones...

better there than here. this happens all the time all over. Thankfully for us, our school has been free of these incidents for a while now. I Know of a couple altercations that have been handled the same way with Griz players. Seems like they approach every incident the same way, handle internally. I dont personally care how other schools handle this. If your school is happy putting thugs on the field so be it, makes the schools that dont accept this look to have a little more class.

Ill take this opportunity to say great job BOBCAT football for doing it the right way recently.

You obviously don't get it, Dexter. This is not some isolated incident that been blown out of proportion. This is a pattern of criminal behavior which has haunted the Griz football program since Hauck filled the roster with his IA drop-down thugs who had been removed from their teams because they were bad kids, and his high school players who were by-passed by more discriminating programs because of their off-the-field problems in high school. How many incidents are you willing to brush off before you admit that there is a problem?

Frankly, I am totally embarrased that so many of you supposed Griz fans are making excuses for Hauck, and these players, instead of being outraged that this stuff is going on year-after-year. Enough is enough.

I think Hauck should be fired just like Kramer was. Kramer paid the price for the activities of his players by losing his job. Bobby should too. The head coach is ultimately responsible for the actions of his recruits, especially if that coach attempts to cover-up these actions, which Hauck is obviously doing.

And Dexter, I would appreciate it if you would answer the question I posed. That is, would you still support the way Hauck has handled these players if he had gone 7-5 last season and missed the playoffs?

If students are getting beat down and knocked unconscience every day then you have bigger problems than this.

Oh come on Alpha, you don't actually think I believe that the other poster is you do you? He didn't go off on a nonsensical rant laden with borderline racist comments and then start arguing with himself like you do on eGriz occasionally.. so obviously I knew it wasn't you :) One question I have for you though is... you do realize that on the other board, the guy you are agreeing with, and getting all huggy huggy with (Hairy Bear) is the same guy you scared out of a bar right (you gangster thug...)? Just thought you should know that, since the upcoming romantic date that you two obviously have planned might be kind of awkward when you meet again...
Grizplan wrote:And Dexter, I would appreciate it if you would answer the question I posed. That is, would you still support the way Hauck has handled these players if he had gone 7-5 last season and missed the playoffs?
Actually, yes, I would. Obviously the father of the kid is happy with how it was handled.. I think that the father of the kid is a better judge of whether it was handled correctly than you, me, or the obviously biased Glenn Beck style "journalists" that wrote those pieces on the Kaimin.. The "pattern of violent crime" article was especially poorly written. Grizplan are you saying that You and the Kaimin know what's best for that other student, and his own father's opinion that the issue has been resolved isn't correct?

The Kaimin is taking one side of the story as the gospel truth, and then tossing in a couple tablespoons of Hauck Hatred, a cup of "waah waah the football program gets too much funding", a couple contradictory statements, mixing it all together and presenting us with these piles of crap :)

Didn't anyone else find it interesting that in the article by Mike Gerrity, that he uses incidents where charges were dropped, non-guilty (due to self defense) verdicts, and other non-criminal incidents as proof there is a "pattern of violent crime"? He both uses the Jimmy Wilson incident as part of his "pattern of violent crime, and as evidence that he's unbiased since he wanted Wilson to have a second chance. So..is he saying Wilson commited a violent crime? Or is he saying that Wilson should've gotten a second chance? Hm... Mike Shelton leaving Arizona..he lumps in with his "pattern of violent crime", yet there's no evidence that Shelton did anything violent or criminal at Arizona... so is there some big cover-up spanning both the U of M and Arizona over this? Yeah.. I kind of doubt that..
