I would have had no problem with booby or anyone else calling us State if not for the way the classless hauck explained WHY he calls us that. As a matter of fact, I'm going to be proud to carry that monicker this November when we beat (actually TROUNCE) the fizz in Bozeman for the 3rd time in 4 years.
Being competitive and having rivals is great, but when the guys in charge lose RESPECT for their biggest rival, it's bad for everyone involved. I'm proud of our football tradition at MSU and I'm pretty sure that we've enjoyed enough success (for DECADES, btw, not just the last 10 years...) that we should expect the Griz coach (whomever holds the job) to have some respect for our program & our school. I may severly dislike the Griz but I respect their football & women's basketball programs because of the success they've enjoyed and the traditions they've established.
hauck = no respect FOR us, therefore no respect FROM us...

That's why asking why racial terms offend certain races. It's because of the way people say it and the connotations behind it.
Everyone who calls us State from the Griz said either says "state" or STATE. They say it just to rile us up, then criticize us for not liking the term.
I personally don't like just being called State because there are hundreds of colleges that can be called just State, but we are Montana State.

I actually heard him say it several times, after a game, On the Sunday night KPAX show and in Interveiws.Grizlaw wrote:Forgive me, but what did Hauck say regarding calling MSU "State?" I must have missed this...
Somebody previous called MSU the Griz biggest rival- How can that be? Isn't it Griz 18 STATE 2?
Also, How can you Equate the word STATE to Racism? Why is it that Race came up in this discussion.? or did I miss him calling MSU the BLACK Bobcats?

I wasn't equating State to racism, I was equating to the fact that certain words hold different meanings. I could have chosen other areas, such as frats (I'm in a fraternity), but I just went with what was first in my mind.
By the way, I could just pick a year too to compare records. I'll choose 2002. Cats 2 Griz 1.
Or just go back one more year in your reasoning, you'll see that we were National Champs.
Keep holding on to your precious streak Griz fans. It's over.

Also, may I ask why you capitalize and quote the word state.
If it continues, I'm going to start saying "MONTANA" when referring to the griz.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or pick a fight here, but does anyone know where I can find an article or a source that contains the actual quote? (I've tried a couple of searches, but couldn't find anything.)HelenaCat wrote:He basically said that he would only call MSU "State" because we did not deserve the name Montana. And people wonder why it is so easy for MSU fans to despise Booby. I have never been a griz fan, but I always respected your coaches such as Papa Read and Joe Glenn. But hack is another story.
For the record, I don't particularly like Hauck, so I'm not trying to defend him. But, I am interested in knowing what he actually said. He has said plenty of things in the press that have made my skin crawl, but I have not heard this quote, and I would like to. But when someone tells me something like "He 'basically' said X," I'm always going to be a little skeptical until I see the actual quote, because that statement is ripe for all kinds of hyperbole.

As someone else said above, I don't believe this was in print anywhere. I seem to remember him saying it on his coaches show on Sunday nite before his first Cat-griz game a couple of years ago. So I can't produce a site to verify this for you. I guess you can believe it or not, but plenty of people seem to remember hack saying this. For the record, I don't believe that he said anything similar last year, but I did hear him on his coaches show allude to "making comments just to get a rise out of his Cat friends". Not sure what Cat friends Booby has?????

Go on egriz and ask what he said. Then take what was said at egriz and what was said on bobcatnation and figure the truth is somewhere in between. That is probably the closest thing you are going to find…Grizlaw wrote:Thanks. Not that it matters to anyone what I think, but I am happy to give you guys the benefit of the doubt on this one; I'll assume the quote is basically true, with maybe a little bit of opposing fan exaggeration thrown in (as expected).
I'd still like to see what he actually said, though...
