FRIZ FANS

The majority of friz fans I have met never even went to the u of m. They just jumped on the bandwagon because it was easy. We should put an asterisk next to your names to identify you guys.
SO; lets here from all of the tree huggers, poets, McDonald's managers, ambulance chasers and rainbow sash wearers out there (that should cover most of you). Did you really go to the "u"???????

I did go to UM (and I'm responding to this post even though I'm not in any of the groups you mentioned -- and yes, I did notice "ambulance chaser" on your list, so save it).
I think a better question, though, is why do Cat fans always talk about the fact that UM has a lot of fans who are not alums as if it's a bad thing? Personally, I am happy that my school's football team has done well enough that people unaffiliated with the school actually care about them, and deep down, I suspect Cat fans wish the same were true of MSU.

Of course, the downside to having a group of fans that are exclusively bandwagon crawlers is that they treat the college sports program like a pro sports program and have a tendancy to act like morons while claiming to be fans of the program.
That isn't limited to non-alums, of course, but it certainly seems to be more prevelant when people don't associate pride in the school and the academic side of things to their actions as sports fans.

Really?? Where to get your information??
The biggest group of morons are the college students themselves. Most of the problems I've witness over the past 25 years have involved students. (it’s that youth thing.)
Just because you didn’t attend either University, doesn’t make you a "bandwagon fan" (I attend from 77 to 83) I happy to have every fan we have. In fact, as we continue to enlarge the stadium, we'll be looking for a few more. Any of you bobcats want to come over from the dark side?

About twenty years of observation ... including the attitudes shown by many posters in the various bulletin boards over the years. The trend is pretty clear.
My bad -- I forgot this was the smack board, and it is (seriously) assumed that everything is a cheap shot. It wasn't intended that way. It was just a statement. I would say the same thing about Bobcat fans.

There may be some truth to this; I don't really know. No matter what, there will be moronic fans on all sides of a rivalry, but given that the fan base is built on the success of the program, I would still rather have the additional fans than not have them.

I think we've covered this one a thousand times.

This is an absolutely ridiculous post. Who cares who the fans are or where they came from? Maybe the posters that are complaining of "bandwagon" fans should go ask Travis Lulay if he'd rather play in front of 8,000 alumni or 24,000 fans regardless of where they went to college, or if they went at all. Anyone that has ever played anything would choose the latter. So would the idiots that started this post~ another case of envy. Quite sad.

I assume by 8000 you mean 12000.
I also agree this post is kind of silly, why wouldn't we want to have fans that aren't associated with MSU?

I didn't go to either school, but I did grow up in Missoula and have almost certainly attended more games than 90% of the alumni.

but, grizbeer, the question is: have you smoked more weed than 90% of the alumni?

I think they have me beat there. Also i have never trampled of the trails on Mt. Sentinel onto the fragile prairie grass to layout a sign protesting cyanide leach mining while the rain washes the ink and paint from my sign into the ground. But I do like the UM sports teams.
