1)yes this is a smack board...is that a complaint...to be in a smack board you must be able to take the smack as well as talk it or else you are just a sore looser and thus a very small man
2)without "us" i am sure this board will still be intertaining...try running a heysell vs. kramer topic
3) why should we be envious of a school whos football program has won less national titles over the years then us? why should we be envious of a program whos only existance on par with big sky conference programs is due to dennis washington? I am not saying that noone should be able to donate lots of money to a school just trying to put it in perspective. If it were not for Dennis Washington AND Don Reid U of M would be Suck State East.
and we are 2-2 last four years....wana go back further then 20 years or do you just want to go back as far as when the streak began

As I've always said, I think just looking at the entire series record is sufficient, and I believe the score is something like 66-33-6, or something like that (I may be off by a game or two, and I'm not going to go look it up right now).Hell's Bells wrote:and we are 2-2 last four years....wana go back further then 20 years or do you just want to go back as far as when the streak began
Is that going back far enough for you?

Who cares how we got to be dominant, nobody says oh Duke sucks because w/o Coach K they would be nothing, or wow who cares that Miami is dominant in football if not for Jimmy Johnson they would still be in the toilet. The fact is that Don Read resurected the Griz w/some help with donor money from Dennis Washington. I would say that is Griz envy showing through. Ha ha just had to use that term I know how much cat fans love it.Hell's Bells wrote:[3) why should we be envious of a school whos football program has won less national titles over the years then us? why should we be envious of a program whos only existance on par with big sky conference programs is due to dennis washington? One would think coming into this site in order to gain some reasonable discussion instead of the continual inhouse fighting found on the Fizzlie sight is in actuality Cat Envy. Ya'll just want to be around normal people and associate with the winners as you know MSU's overall athletic program, academics, and community is fast leaving your "school" behind.

You guys can keep winning the track, water polo, croquet, badminton, ping pong & Mah Jong championships all you want, I am pretty happy w/our championships in football & mens and womens hoops. I know we only won the Big sky tourney but we were in the Big Dance & I don't mind sharing the FB title w/EWU if it means we go to the title game. So enjoy that Presidents trophy and hang that Curling banner high!Cat Grad wrote:MSU's overall athletic program, is fast leaving your "school" behind.

You've referred to academics several times in the past few days, alluding to some perceived superiority that you think MSU has over UM. I usually dismiss things like this as harmless trash talk, but since you've brought it up a few times recently, I'll address it.
Here's my question: do you *honestly* think the quality of education is any better at MSU than at UM? It's easy to say so, but deep down, I suspect you know it's not true.
In the grand scheme of things, here's the reality: neither school is an academic powerhouse. Both are third-tier state schools, and both are probably slightly under-funded. Both have open admissions policies (i.e. the student bodies at both schools are comparable in terms of intelligence, and pretty much anybody who wants to can get accepted to either school).
Each emphasizes different courses of study; if you want to study engineering, any hard science, computers, agriculture, or any tech field, MSU has better programs; if you want to study journalism, pharmacy, physical therapy, forestry, any liberal art, humanities, or law then you're better off at UM (although I consider UM's law school to be a separate entity from the rest of the university, since it's the only option in the state for MSU grads as well). For business, despite all the talk on both sides, the schools are about equal -- both have very high CPA pass rates; UM has an MBA program (although if I were to get an MBA, I wouldn't go there). My law school class at UM was composed of grads of both schools, and I don't think either group was noticably better prepared than the other.
So, please indulge me: in exactly what way is MSU "leaving UM behind" academically?
Or, are you just talking smack? (Which is fine too; I'm just asking.)

I know this is the smack board, and I don't really believe that you meant it this way, but please don't compare track with Mah Jong. It's not only an insult to all of MSU's fine track athletes, but's it's also an insult to the track athletes at UM - who, using this logic, would somehow be less of an athlete than a Mah Jong player. You guys can keep winning the track, water polo, croquet, badminton, ping pong & Mah Jong championships all you want,
Thanks for understanding.

Point taken Helena, no offense meant to Cat or Griz tracksters, I just wanted to acknowledge that I am aware that the Cats have a better track program than the Griz.HelenaCat95 wrote:I know this is the smack board, and I don't really believe that you meant it this way, but please don't compare track with Mah Jong. I think a good barometer is to see where the top students in the state of Montana are chosing to go.Grizlaw wrote:Cat Grad --Cat Grad wrote:Ya'll just want to be around normal people and associate with the winners as you know MSU's overall athletic program, academics, and community is fast leaving your "school" behind.

The Montana University System awards 285 in-state tuition waivers to the top graduating seniors in the state of Montana based on GPA and class rank. This tuition waiver is good at any state school in Montana.
Of the 285 recipients in 2004, 146 are attending MSU, UM has 89, 16 at Tech, 16 in Billings, Western 4, Northern 4, Miles CC 3, Billings COT 1, Great Falls COT 1. (5 were undecided when data was gathered)
Also, the academic profile of an incoming freshman is quite a bit higher at MSU than at UM (UM doesn't even post the pofile of incoming freshman class).
MSU is rightfully known as the best place to receive an undergraduate education in the state. (Aside from journalism, forestry, pharmacy, and probably foreign languages)

I would like to talk smack, but the evidence is overwhelmingly in MSUs favor. I'll give you the law school, as the Board of Regents knew where they belong
This dead horse has been beat to death so many times on this site or others that it's now a moot point, as is any discussion we may have as to the logic of our conference's present configuration, how to better fund our athletic program, the extremely low price our students pay for a great public education and all the activities they're able to participate in, and I could go on forever, but suffice it to say I'm extremely proud of THEE Montana State University and know everyone located at the foot of Mt. Sentinel is concerned with the position our school's leadership have us poised for and ready to rightly assume once more.
I'm sure even the Fizzlies can understand the depths our school fell to under the "leadership" that has moved on and realize that it's an infectious, winning attitude that literally flows out of the Gallatin today
We're on a roll and ya'll know you're going to get run over, literally and figuratively

What amazes me most about their arrogance is that very few of them today realize that their school was once in the conference that morphed into the PAC-8 and the only win they were able to get on a consistent basis was the little aggie school in the game that used to be played in Butte--and then they're too ignorant, I would assume, to realize the overall record in our series is something like 66-33
That'd be like counting their series record against Western
Kind of embarrassing on their part and makes you pretty proud of the old time Cats that would take them on, and evidently win more than a few times
