BOBCAT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS????

I have listened to the kittie crow about thier three NC and finally wondered what they were all about. So I did some research. Yes three NC'c They were a NAIA, DIV II A 1AA. Nice try guys. The first one was a 0-0 tie, the second Div II and finally a 1-AA with HOME GAMES
1956: MONTANA STATE COLLEGE (NAIA)
The team's reward for its perfect regular season was a trip to Little Rock, Ark., for the Aluminum Bowl. The team traveled in style on a chartered flight, sporting cowboy hats and boots, and walked through War Memorial Stadium the day before the game. But on game day, the team was met with a mud bath and wet, soggy conditions that hampered both the Bobcats and St. Joseph's, a small school from Indiana that finished its regular season 8-1. The 1956 Aluminum Bowl set up the first-ever "N.A.I.A. Classic" to decide a national champion.

ENDED IN A TIE ZERO TO ZERO (Nice Blutowski!!!) NATIONAL CHAMP?????
1976: DIVISION II
24-13 over Akron
Could not even find a writeup on this on the internet, except that it was Division II and the score. 1 Game also???
1984 1-AA
I sat and watched- congrates a real championship.
If you all what to compare these to what UofM has done then you truly are HOMERS. There is no comparison!!! A total of 6 games to win 3 (Barley) National Championships. Well more power to you!!!
PS Now I know why some posters on here say that you make a TIE A WIN!!!!

The 76 win included a win over Rhode Island at home, a win in Fargo over NDSU (yes it was outside (-10 degrees)). and the championship game which was not as close as the score indicated. All Butte Central kids on that team.

Good job Scats, that dUMb education really coming through. It only took you what, how many years griz fans have been making fun of us for the tie, and you just figured it out! Way to keep on the ball.
The Div II championship we played 3 games in the playoffs, beating New Hampshire, NDSU @ Ellendale, ND, and then we beat Akron in Bozeman.
Guess what - we have a trophy for that NAIA championship. We were awarded the championship. Stop whining, we are 3 for 3 in championship bouts.

Hey scats, I've been waiting for another grizidiot to take shots at our 3 football National Championships.
Rather than make weak attempts to deny our championships, why don't you answer the following question, what precisely did the Griz accomplish in their first 100 years of football in the way of National Championships and/or recognition?
Answer: Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

It seems to me that the only other NC that the Griz have won besides football was raquetball???
The Cats have an NC in basketball and lest we forget rodeo (something I like to remind my Griz outlaws)

Were the grizzlies playing in the same leagues as the CATS when we won those championships? If so, we must have been better than uofm

You can make fun of Bearbac all you want, but he is correct this time. For much of the schools' histories, UM was in the conference that now includes much of the Pac 10 and MWC, and the Cats were, in fact, in a "lower" (for lack of a better word) conference. I'd have to check the history books to see for sure when UM and MSU joined the same conference, but I'm certain they were at different levels in 1956, and they may have been in 1976 as well (I'm not as sure about 76, though).
That's the reason why I always just laugh it off when a Cat fan breaks out the "what did the Griz do prior to '95?" argument. I would never belittle the Cats' three titles; those are great accomplishments and those teams deserve all the credit they get; however, I do think it's fair to assume that the Griz probably would have had a title run or two of their own if they had played in a conference with MSU and the Colorado School of Mines instead of competing with Stanford and BYU for all those years.

Well by that logic, UM has gone down since the olden "glory days" while the Cats just kept moving up divisions. =]

Correct, in 1956 they were at different levels--note however that if you want to be proud of the fact you were in with the early Pac 10 and MWC teams you should also put in that UM regularly got waxed by said teams during this time. However, the Big Sky conference was formed with both MSU and UM as charter members in 1963 so from at least then on they were playing the same competition and had equal opportunity to take home National Championship hardware.

I'm not really "proud" of UM having been in the same conference as those schools; I was just setting the record straight. Although I do have to say, I have wondered before what might have happened to our football program if we had tagged along with the Pac 10 teams instead of joining the BSC when it was formed (I'm not saying which way it would've gone; it could've been good or bad -- I'm just saying I'm curious).
Thanks for the date info on when the BSC was formed. I thought it was around that time, but didn't remember the exact history.

Grizlaw if we tagged along we'd be alot like WSU. 1 Rosebowl in like 80 years yea. Always at the bottom of BB. WSU can't really hang with the PAC and the U would do the same.

That's exactly what I thought of as a comparison as well jagur. See Cats and Griz can agree on something!

I agree - and will add that if they would have stayed in the PAC 10 they would not have made it to the college football playoffs once!!!
