The SprinTurf. Who cares?
I am so tired of hearing the excuse of the Griz football loss. Last time I checked football was made to be played on grass (natural). Also, last time I checked the Cats played on the same field as the griz when we beat them. I would rather watch a game on natural grass outside while it is snowing than watch it on SprinTurf. I am glad the CATS play on a natural surface.

I can't tell you how many play-off games I watched at Washington/Grizzly in which the field was a mudhole after the game. I know because we used to be able to exit off of the field from my Dad's seats.
I don't recall any of the Griz fans whining about the joke of a field back then. Remember, this is in the days when they won championships.

after we tear'm up at their place next year their excuse will be that they couldn't see because the sun was glaring off their over-compensating scoreboardthuss wrote:I am so tired of hearing the excuse of the Griz football loss. sooooooo that would be as far back as 2001 then? Man I can hardly recall back that far...I was a mere 18 and just about to start college, and now that I am a whopping 22 it is hard to think back four LONG years ago...Give me a break...Sorry I know I know smack talk...I will concede on this post because it dosn't belong here...I had to but in however, because "in the days they won championships" is a ludicrous statement...

Might be part of the reason, but being Missoula it was mainly because the athletes were harvesting it, rolling it up , and smoking it.WeedKillinCat wrote:The reason they put Sprinturf over there is to keep the cheerleaders from grazing....mooooo...mooooo....

Re: The SprinTurf. Who cares?
Well, they had it in Missoula before the Griz fans started whining about field conditions. Lose 3 out of 4 and suddenly football was meant to be played on a synthetic turf?Billings_Griz wrote:Did they even have grass when the kittys won championships?PapaG wrote:The field! Re: The SprinTurf. Who cares?
I too would rather watch football on grass, but the Griz playoff run has shown that in most years Montana weather does not permit it. The Griz field was either a mudhole or they were playing on frozen mud (termed "concrete" by many) during almost every playoff game. If you failed to hear any Griz fans complaining about the field, it was because they were in denial much like Cat fans are today. The field was a joke, and every team that had to come to Missoula to play on it complained about it.PapaG wrote:The field! The field conditions this year in Bozeman were not the reason the Griz lost the game; the Cats kicked their a$$. Nonethless, had the Cats had 3 playoffs games at home after that game the field would not have held up regardless of what the maintenance crew did. IMO you should not be so quick to criticize SprinTurf, but in fact should anticipate getting it in
Bozeman if you plan to be consistently playing in December.
BTW, I believe the Griz second NC came the same year that SprinTurf was installed.

Re: The SprinTurf. Who cares?
A well-reasoned post. I'd love to have a synthetic turf in Bozeman. You bring up valid points on why grass isn't a good option later in the year. I just don't like the whining. Both teams play on the same field.
As for the title, you may be right. I remember going back to Missoula for an Idaho game the year the turf was put in. It may have been 2001. I really don't remember.

Hey, I'm on your side, but whenever we lose on "grass" it (the turf thing) comes up quite a bit. So I'd say we lose 90% of the games we bitch about too.Go Scats Go wrote:When ever I coach and hear the other team complaining about the field. Re: The SprinTurf. Who cares?
I understand- but its a lame excuss that some griz fans use. Both teams play on the same field. The NC game was a joke, but JM delt with it better. STATES field has always been a piece of crap. But the griz should know that by now.Billings_Griz wrote:Hey, I'm on your side, but whenever we lose on "grass" it (the turf thing) comes up quite a bit. I remember the griz letting the grass get really deep to slow down the Idahos and Boises of the world.
I for one am sick of griz fans that bitch about the field, its a lame copout. Im not taking a shot at you, just give credit where its due.
Against MSU, the playcalling had more to do with our terrible offence then the field did. MSU figured it out and ran stop routes and curls. The griz coaches kept trying to run slants and had a freshmen QB behind center . And then there is Lex, on a muddy field he only carries the ball 15 times, terrible play calling.
Those are things a griz fan can point to- but not the field
