This first comment is directed to all the members of the BobcatNation who have predictably turned to attempting to disparage ASU, and Southerners in general, as a bunch of ignorant 'Deliverance' extras with five teeth and a penchant for sodomy. Hey CatGrad this is directed to you... ever been to NC? There's a reason we have great universities, vibrant cities and towns, RTP, and numerous corporate headquarters. First... smart and capable people, second NC is a great place to live and to do business. It is one of the most beautiful states in the Union, one with a long and colorful history. We have got beautiful places from the mountains, to the piedmont, to the coast and because of the varying topography, we have a great diversity of species. Those are some of the reasons we are the 5th most visited State. Just a few facts to dispel some preconceived notions. Sure, we got more than our share of poverty, especially in the rural areas of Eastern NC and yes even in the mountains. And with that poverty comes all the social ills you would expect. No different in BFE Montana I'm sure. Although I have never been to Montana, I have been to Alberta, Colorado, and Wyoming. I am sure that it is equally as breathtaking. Hope to visit someday.
Bozeman the 5th largest city in Montana with a population of 27,500? Do they even serve arugula and radicchio in a town so small? Just a little dig!
Now onto the primary comment. I am sure it will be a good game although it is going to be tough for the Bobs to go into Boone and come out with a win. ASU is a good team. Should really be undefeated this year because they really shouldn't have lost to the Pack. Elder, now the backup QB, threw an interception on the Pack 1 yd line or it might have been a different outcome. Good luck, but here's to hoping that the Bobs get smacked around by the defending National Champs! Black and gold![/b]

It's all in good fun man. Don't tell me you have never heard any silly stereotypes about Montana, especially involving an animal that may or may not be used to make wool. Hell I had a pen-pal in 3rd grade who couldn't believe my letters arrived to him in such a speedy manner, because he was under the impression that we used the Pony Express.

But I did have my car stranded in Spotsylvania once, and some nice gents who worked for a towing company happened to drive by and tried to give us a hand. Boy I couldn't understand one word he said, he was a picture-perfect hillbilly.

In answer to your query. Affirmative; however, perhaps you or yours ought not to have fired the first volley reference not being anything if we're from Montana. We're used to it and for whatever reason, we always seem to get called down for retaliation.

As I spoke to the individuals from the other Carolina school who were fortunate enough to have spent a weekend in our fair city, I served in the 108th Training Division out of Hickory where our Bridage HQ was located and the Division HQs being in Charlotte. Although I actually lived in Georgia for over 25 years and only returned to my home state to assist my mother care for my father during the final stages of his life, I'll not hold your jealousy for the cosmopolitan state to your South against you. Those of us from the Gallatin in and around Bozeman are used to that Freudian term--something about envy? I could in fact explain the link that once existed between Duke basketball and Montana, but it would take much more time for you to look up Mike Lewis and Glenn Smiley and their roles in early (the first Duke final four appearance by Duke led almost exclusively by Mike Lewis) but I'll spare you the details.

As far as your comment concerning our population (or the lack thereof); our winters obviously keeps the riff raff out

...and please tell me the real reason for this thread is not because I have previously posted I have several friends who played for Furman and a boy for Georgia Southern? Although I highly suspect this to be the case based upon your boards general tone toward those two schools.

No CatGrad I didn't see your previous posts regarding Furman or GA Southern or the fact that you lived in GA for 25 years. Taking that into account, I suppose that I shouldn't have just assumed that you knew nothing of the South. More cosmopolitan GA? Ok I'll give you the fact that ATL is a world class city on par with the Chicago's, NYC's, and LA's of this country. Hey, they hosted an Olympics right? NC is still better.

There's a tad bit of bias in my assessment though! Look at it this way. In 30 years the whole I-85 corridor (including Raleigh despite the fact that 85 passes to the north through Durham) will essentially be one big megalopolis anyway. To the added detriment of our water quality, I might add. Did your boy happen to play for a Ga Southern National Championship team? To CelticCat you're right, most of the posts are generally all in good fun. Just couldn't sit back and not respond to the BS. Can't speak for the App poster who blasted you all for being arrogant. See all the advantages for not having many people around? We've got pretty fair sized lakes out here that don't need any treatment whatsoever for good, clean drinking water (not even any backpackers delight bugs in it either.)

You do in fact understand the main reason NC is receives so much traffic is because people have to pass through NC on I-95 when they're going someplace

Yes, my son made me proud twice. His high school coaches didn't even think he had a chance of making it (common theme being a Bobcat descendent perhaps.)

Any self respecting North Carolinian doesn't give a crap about Dook B-ball. Either you are a TarHoles fan (I'm not can you tell), or a Pack fan, or to a lesser degree a Deacs fan. Look out though the Holes are loaded. 1st half of the Ohio State game the other night was the best college basketball I have ever seen. Two heavyweights that I wouldn't be surprised are there at the end, especially if Odom comes on strong for OSU. On to football...

Well, anyway, I happen to be Methodist just like Bobby Knight and Mike Alphabet and certainly could never cheer for a Baptist school like Wake! I was fairly young when I got to see a pretty fair Montana state championship basketball game with Mike Lewis playing against Wayne Estes. Both kids went out of state and were All-Americans (Estes was killed in a freak accident the night he score 48 points.) I kind of like what Weber from our conference did to NC a half dozen years ago in the first round.

The game tomorrow will present for some fascinating background, for prior to the arrival in our conference of that dang Cal Northridge bunch that spawned Mouse Davis and all these other variations of the run and shoot, west coast or whatever spread garbage, we were predominately an option conference. Our coach played both defense and offense against the infancy of the spread, he's hired an OC who came out of Portland State after June Jones and Mouse were there (Mouse may have been there one of his years) and several of that staff wound up "tinkering" with it and as Cal Poly is doing now, they've hybridized the spread with the option. I love what you do with it out of the shotgun, but it's not that different, really, than GSUs old option--just a different delivery method. Your main advantage is your qb doesn't have to be that one step behind your pulling guards or when you run the counter trey, everything is in front of him and he doesn't have to absorb that initial outside containment. I can't wait to see what our DC does to take away the "pitch" finally.

I personally hate what we do on offense because our receivers are frequently running button hooks and safeties and corners get to give them their best shots when they're most vulnerable. Can't wait to see how this plays out on the field tomorrow.

Absolutely! Sorry that was a mismanagement of the Swingline. My mistake, you're correct. Hey anyone that is down with what might be one of the best movies of the 90's is alright by me. Love the copier beat down scene... Cinematic brilliance! Just heard from some of the crew earlier this evening, making plans for the game festivities tomorrow!

as my buddy used to say there are many options in the triple option. Primarily when we used to play college football on Sega oh so long ago. Ha... Not really huh you would say. God rest his soul and by the way I commend you for doing what you needed to for your family. Funny stat from last year that I remember hearing during a game. ASU had only ran like 5 off plays under center during the entire regular season up to that playoff game. Mountaineers!

I love the triple option and enjoyed watching Billy Napier run Furman's old option up until Louis Ivory got hurt in 2001. The only coach I've seen handle the triple option was Whipple from UMASS and the only thing he did differently was use a couple of big old offensive linemen as nose tackles and they got low and litterly flipped the pulling guards back into the quarterback so the A and Z backs weren't able to get to their pitch lanes.

As a side bar, I know of two high school coaches who went down to Statesboro during their coaches clinics and when I came back to Montana, they were running the wing-t.

Was one of them Hollowell from Belgrade? He instituted the wing-t here a couple of seasons ago and they've gotten pretty good at it from what I can see.

There weren't any Ericksons in Belgrade when I graduated from there. Danny Welch was an excellent high school quarterback whom I fully believe should have walked on at Montana State. I'm not sure, but I think Mike Oriett who has had an exellent Army career was on the same team as Danny. Last I've read about Mike was about his being the Professor of Military Science for Gonzaga when they were the chosen as the best in the country. I know he made full bull and one would assume he'll get a flag.
