Win one lose one

Post by mslacat » Tue Dec 21, 2004 9:10 am

Unfortunately the one we lost was a bigger loss than the one we got. The MSU football program only brought in 4 athletes this week-end shooting for quality over quantity. As mentioned previuosly we recieved a verbal commitment from a JC defensive end, well one of those athletes who came in was Taylor Rank. Me just committed to Steve Spurrier and Southern Carolina U.. See below:
Rank talks about USC commitment

Evergreen RB Taylor Rank got home from a visit to Montana State on Sunday night, and had a message on his voice mail. When he listened, he became extremely excited and immediately returned the phone call. The call was from none other than Steve Spurrier, the new coach at South Carolina and the call was to offer Rank a scholarship.

Rivals.com
Taylor Rank couldn't pick up the phone fast enough to call Coach Spurrier.
Rank called Spurrier and told him the words both of them wanted to hear, that he was going to be a Gamecock.

Spurrier, who has coached NFL running backs such as Emmitt Smith and Fred Taylor, is recruiting Rank as a running back. The fact that Spurrier was a coach on staff at Georgia Tech and that the two have a relationship helped Rank get his foot in the door. Rank said, "It was easier to get film to him, " said Rank.

He continued, "We had sent a couple films from the season, then after the title game, Coach Spurrier, Jr. called and asked me to send that game as well." That game was the one where in front of a regional television audience, Rank ran for over 200 yards and for three touchdowns to clinch the state title.

The chance to play for a legend was one Rank couldn't pass up. He said, "I just want to have the opportunity to play for a coach like Coach Spurrier, it's a great opportunity. It feels like a lot of stress was lifted off my shoulders (with the verbal)."

He is currently ranked as a three-star recruit, and was ranked as anywhere from the third- to fifth-best running back in the state of Washington, which shows the depth of this year's running back class. Rank noted, "There is no doubt this year is a great class for running backs. Not only does it speak well for that, but it speaks well for the entire state."

Rank was also ranked at 16th in the WashingtonPreps.com Post-Thankgiving Top 55, a list that was compiled before the title games.

Congratulations to Rank and his family on their decision.

Since you brought up the Griz, Hauk on his sunday night show wrap up seemed to inticate the griz are pretty close to wrapping up there recruitng for Febuary, with the big exception of the Quarter Back possition. Sounds like Huack would like to get a couple drop downs over JC's QB's
