Mens and Women basketball play tonight
Both basketball teams play tonight, and there is a stark contrast to the quality of the compitition each will face. The men against NAIA d-2 school Montana Tech, and the women against #3 D-1 NCAA ranked Baylor.

yeah Al's pretty bad at freethrows (0-5 tonight). He had a couple of nice dunks though as did Moss and Jefferson.
Losing Dissly is very, very bad. He left on crutches.
Tech was a pretty rugged outfit-there was a Bobcat picking himself off the floor on almost every trip down the floor. They kept it close during the first half, but got blown out in the second.
Durham pretty much conceeded defeat at Nebraska during his postgame show...It didn't seem that long ago that we felt like we had a chance against some of these middle of the pack Big 12 type teams.
Next 4 are on the road. Our record is 5-7 right now-what will it be after the road trip?

The Nebraska game could be ugly...
I hate to think what will happen if the team starts out 0-3 in Conference play...very tough break with the schedule this year. Hopefully they can steal at least one on the road out of the first 3 conference games, if they can do that they'll be in pretty decent shape.

NAIA d-2? Is there a new division that I don't know about. How long have I been asleep?mslacat wrote:Both basketball teams play tonight, and there is a stark contrast to the quality of the compitition each will face. The men against NAIA d-2 school Montana Tech...

Guys, this thread is a perfect microcosm of how far our basketball program has fallen. Some of you are talking about hoping that our team can somehow manage to "steal" one out of three games on the road against less-than-mediocre teams, and you (not to mention Mick) are pretty much conceding the Nebraska game before it is even played. Guys, Nebraska is not Duke - they are a crappy team from the Big 12. I'm not saying that in the good years we would have gone down expecting to win against them, but we would have known that we would be in a dogfight and would have a hell of a chance to come out of Lincoln with a win. The basketball program has gone from bad to pathetic, and it kills me to see it continue.

Exactly Bozone.
MSU beat Colorado, including Chauncy Billups, at Colorado back in the day. Knocked off a top 25 (and eventual Sweet 16) team in Texas Tech at the Holiday tourney. This Nebr. team doesn't stack up at all with those teams.
The same is true for the rest of the Big Sky. Montana, Weber, NAU used to knock off a big team every other year or so. UM beat Stanford (missing their point guard) last year, or was that two years ago, and that may be the last of the big upsets for the Big Sky for the near future. The Big Sky coaches are down, too. Howland, Aebiglin(?, way off on sp.), Northridge coach, Morrill, are all gone.
