Who do you think are the top montana high school basketball recruits?
Kellen Hasquet - Sentinal, Tom Danahy - West
2006 - Brett Taylor
any others? these sre just a couple off the top of my head

There are two award given each year for best player in the state.

*USA Today Player of the Year

*GATORADE Player of the Year

Sometimes one player gets them both, but it has been common for two players to get them. Anyone have the answer to recent past winners? Come on Mslacat...Don't let us down. This may also be a good (poll) to see who thinks this years will be.

There is also the "Mr. Basketball" award given out by the Billings roundtable club at the Montana/Wyoming all-star game. This is the award I like.

To be honest I have not paid attention to the USA Today award, so I can not comment on it.

The Gatorade tends to go to the Athlete who got the most press prior to the start of the season, thus, Eric Henkle won that award in 2002-03.

The Mr Basetball award tends to be more current with how the past year went, but with a little more east side bias, plus you have to attend the all-star game to be elligable, thus Dissly won that award in 2002-03.

Also the Gatorade award can go to a player in any class (soph, jr, sr.), but the Mr. Basketball award only goes to Seniors.

If I had to guess Hasquet may edge out McGillis for the Gatorade award.

Mr. Basketball if all the athletes show up I would guess McGillis would edge out Bulluck. As with a lot of things the State tourney will effect this one Big Time.

This is Craig's brother, Cary's, team. Unfortunately, when you look at the number of fouls and free throws shot, how in the heck can a college coach determine whether or not the kids can actually play the game of basketball?

Jordan Hasquet won both Montana's Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year last year.

The previous year it was Henkel as Gatorade and Dissly as Montana's Mr. Basketball.

McGillis is a great player, but having watched Hasquet's last few games, it's really hard to compare these two.

For one, Hasquet does a little of everything for Sentinel; handles pressure with ease, basically makes a very inexperienced team unpressable. Is the perfect "star" to play with a very young team. Garland and Henkel have both blossomed, much of it due to Hasquet's unselfishness and faith in his teammates. (this team could easily be 8-3 in conference, 3 league losses by a couple points)
He's in the top 5 in State AA in Scoring, Rebounding, Assists and Blocked shots. Had 7or 8 assists last night.........spoon fed Garland for many easy baskets. Against very physical Kalispell and Big Sky teams, he routinely brought the ball up court and maybe had one or two turnovers. Plays virtually every minute and really can't take a break.

Jack's a great player, but thanks to Charlie, he basically can save his legs, and get ready to shoot. He's stronger than Hasquet right now, but it's obvious Hasquet is far from done growing. He's listed 6'7" and is every bit of that............seems at least a couple of inches taller than McGillis.

They're both probably bubble D-1 kids, but with his skill level, I gotta believe a 6'8" Hasquet has to be the top College prospect in the state.

Toots (love the handle) I am not going to argue with you about Hasquet, I agree he is right there with McGillis. One thing i would ask you is do you think Bulluck is also right there with them. He is in the top 4-5 in Multiple catagories. At one point he lead the AA in scoring and Rebounding. I really think Hasquet has a multiple range of talent, scoring , rebounding, passing, defence, shot blocking, that make him very attractive. but I would argue what you see is what you get. He has been listed at 6-7 for three years. In talking with college folks his weakness is his willingness to take a back seat to other players. Granted sometimes coaches like players who are unselfish, but there also comes the time when they want to see the compeditive juices take over. I know for a fact that the Bobcat coaches, esspecially former coach Jerry Olson reall liked the "package" of skills that Hasquet bring to the table, the question comes down to does will he be a Faaborge type player ir a Dissly type.

I don't want to seem to rag on Hasquet, becuase, I have met him and his family, and you will not find a nicer more intelligent person. I really hope he gets a chance in D-1 as I do with McGillis, and I will follow both and rout for both.

I believe Hasquet was only listed 6'5" as a soph and I would imagine last year's height was the "in shoes" listing, but he's definitely taller this year than last. Funny you compare him to Dissly and Faborg, because he surely has their kind of range. I don't believe too many teams are letting him just camp out on the arc this year, like he was able to the past couple of years when playing with a couple other D-1ers.

Haven't seen Bullock play, but I believe he's only about 6'3" and from what I've heard, he pretty much a "4" type, who can step out and shoot the three. Maybe I'm wrong........anybody out there have anything to add on Bullock? Does he have the perimeter skills to play at the next level.

I go to west and from what i have seen i think brett taylor is a special player. He is very adept at shooting the three and i know he likes MSU, so i hope they recruit him.

OK please excuse my ignorance, but could you give me some more info. Size, possition, school etc.

I've seen Bulluck play a couple of times and it seems the only thing his game is lacking is motivation. When he wants to he can flat dominate. He is around 6-5 and is very athletic. He is a decent shooter who can create his own shot whenever he wants. Doesn't seem to like to play in the post very much, but can if he has to. I don't think he is a D-1 guy, but could definitely be a star in the Frontier.
If I was to rate this year's AA prospects I would have to take McGillis 1st followed by Hasquet and Bulluck. McGillis has the best supporting cast, but he seems to have unlimited potential and is the most athletic of the three. Hasquet can do it all but I wonder if he is physical enough to play D-1.

Just another note the thing that hurts the best D-1 recruits this year is that they are all projected to play the same position in College. For example MSU is looking to sign , or so i hear, a small forward/swing player, a point guard, and two big men. Unfortunately MSU could be looking at two or three bubble players that both play the small forward . So if MSU follows its recruiting program it could only offer one, despite all three of these players having there own attributes. Now if one was a guard on a center and one a small forward then there is the possiblity of going strong after all three.

Brett Taylor is a Junior PG for Billings West. He is 5'9" (a little short) but he can shoot. He shoots about .550 from beyonfd the arc. Another player from West is Tom Danahy. He is a 6"4" Senior PF.

I do not know either player, but Taylor needs to put a few more inches in height or have a great set of jets on him. Neither Krysco or Durham (which is ironic in it self) are big on tiny guards, Starner used to love to have at least on on his teams. Danahy at 6'-4" would really need to be a heck of an athlete also to play even in the Big Sky.
