The strength of the Defensive unit right now is LBs and 3-4 stresses LBs. The size of the DL wasn't probably the main reason for going there. That is the concern, whether the Nose and to DEs can handle the burden of handling the OL and leaving the LBs free to roam. The will probably have one of the 4 line backers rushing (typically Lowe) but that will vary trying to screw up blocking assignments.Cat Pride wrote:Actually, we are going to the 3-4 because of the horses we have, the speed of the LBs and the size of the DL.94VegasCat wrote:I was just thinking the same thing. We could use the 4-3 with some of the horses that it is looking like we will have.

100% agree wtih you on this. This scheme was tried last year, but kinda took a dive when Marudus got hurt until Epi King learned the ropes more by seasons end - and even then we didnt run it much. LBs are the key, and I'd put MSUs up against anyone in the conference. I seriously doubt there are 5 teams in the country (I-AA) with as good a group.BobcatLionFan wrote:The strength of the Defensive unit right now is LBs and 3-4 stresses LBs. Do those Cal Poly linebackers return? They were probably the best I've seen.Cat Pride wrote:100% agree wtih you on this. I know at least Jordan Beck is gone....he was amazing, and probably made the others look better than they actually are.CelticCat wrote:Do those Cal Poly linebackers return? They were probably the best I've seen.
Anyways, look for the Cats LBs to match Cal Poly's intensity and destruction towards offenses.

Cal Poly will DEFINATELY suffer quite a bit from the loss of Beck. That guy was an animal and all over the field. I'm sure he made a lot of the defense look a lot better as if it was a busted play he always made the play. He always made the play when the play wasn't busted tooCat Pride wrote:I know at least Jordan Beck is gone....he was amazing, and probably made the others look better than they actually are.CelticCat wrote:Do those Cal Poly linebackers return? Yeah, the guy that scored/ran all over us for 2-3 years. They would throw him quick outs and he would just run right by our secondary guys. I am glad to see him go!iaafan wrote:They lost 5 or 6 guys on defense, but have two all-conf. guys back. One, Gocong, led nation in sacks with 17.5. Their big loss is Darrell Jones on offense, he gave MSU fits. 8 catches for 125 and a TD last year. Ran a punt back for a TD year before.
Also keep in mind our offense had growing pains last year when we played them and we still were right there at the end. I think our offense should be a lot more potent this year. We definately need to break that streak though and beat those guys!

I just pointed out to a bunch of my Cal Poly co-workers that we need to make the roadie down to SLO this year for the game, and the "streak" smack talk started immediately thereafter (although they weren't even aware that we had ever played each other before until they researched it). Yes, we definitely do need to get that win this year. At this rate, if they didn't have lives outside of college football, they would be in danger of going griz** on me.CARDIAC_CATS wrote:Yeah, the guy that scored/ran all over us for 2-3 years. ** "going griz" -- similar to "going postal", but more intentionally obnoxious and one notch less violent.

I watched Practice the other day and I think Quast is wrong. I know that in the past and usually first scrimmages are hard to watch and some times uguly but this year is different.
The D will have their hands full with the O but i look for some big plays from Matakis, Papich and Cogley on the Dline Mollahan, Marudis, Eppi king, Clive Lowe, at LB and the secondary will be better than last year with Force, and andre fuller. I think the O might come out on top this spring but I know Coach K, Linders, Christoff, and Berryhill will have things put together to compete with the o, nd those guys hate to loose or look bad at these things.
The O will fun to watch macandoo has his guys looking great, what more can you say about Travis and dominick has lost weight looks fast and a lot better physical condition, the recievers are deep this year with vets and the most tallented freshman class in a long time.
The O should pick up where they left off and I give the O two serries at most if they struggle at all and the rest of the night they should look great. Also Quast think about who are QB is, he is a winning sob and for once the O should score 4 to 5 tds. Especially when Kramer puts them into the red zone looks and gives them the short field to work in. We should be happy after saturday and I can't wait for the dinner tonight and to go to the stadium sat.

Speaking of Bay Area Cat, where do you watch Cat/Griz or do you head back for the game? I live a bit north of the Bay Area and probably won't head up to MT for the game this yearI just pointed out to a bunch of my Cal Poly co-workers that we need to make the roadie down to SLO this year for the game, and the "streak" smack talk started immediately thereafter (although they weren't even aware that we had ever played each other before until they researched it).

When I'm in town, I hit the party at Ricky's in San Leandro (just south of Oakland). It draws a couple hundred people -- a really good time ... except when the bad guys "get lucky." I'll probably be in MT for it this year, though.DaGriz wrote:Speaking of Bay Area Cat, where do you watch Cat/Griz or do you head back for the game?
