This sounds like a great get! I am worried though, if they kid has a little lack of motivation, is Mick the guy to light a fire under his arse?

2004-2005 BOYS BASKETBALL* DIVISION VA
ALL CIF-SOUTHERN SECTION
Player of the Year – Frank Henry-Ala, Price (12)
Coach of the Year – Michael Lynch, Price
FIRST TEAM
PLAYER GRADE SCHOOL
Marcus Palmer 12 Price
Justin Cook 9 Renaissance Academy
Chawn Johnson 12 Antelope Valley
Jordan Martize 12 Calvary Chapel/Moreno Valley
Michael Mulligan 12 Acaciawood Academy
Marcus Anderson 11 Pilgrim
William Rowe 12 Redlands Adventist Academy
Landon Hernandez 12 Desert Chapel
John Grysko 12 Maricopa
Shawn Walker 12 Antelope Valley Christian
Chawn Johnson,
6-8 235 lbs. power forward from Antelope Valley Christian h.s. He played pretty well over the summer with the tough and superior coaching of Rock Johnson he seemed to get lost in the shadow of D'Andre Bell. Johnson got left off the highlight tape in most games for Amer-I-Can but a recently distributed tape of his best high school games shows him doing very athletic things with the ball and has really seen his stock soar high to real Pac-10 interest and SEC Conference interest. Johnson has stated that he is also interested in other quality mid major programs like Fresno St. who might feature him sooner in college. He is a great kid with improving grades that seems to be on the "short list" of sought after players from the SoCal area.

YESSS! My prayers have been answered!! Just what I wanted for the team next year. We will be so much more versatile next year with him in the lineup..(drools
). We are gonna be an F'ing FORCE inside!!
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Now we need to make sure we keep him hear for all 4 or 5 years, and make sure that he leaves with a diploma in his hands.grizzh8r wrote:YESSS! My prayers have been answered!! I am really excited to see what this kid can do. Can you imagine Moss and Johnson on the floor at the same time, with Morris at center? We might just have a physical/big team! With Beye coming in for whoever needs a rest, or vice versa, I like our rotation there. I hope he can live up to the hype we built around him here at the board.
Anyone know if he is going to start right away, or RS? If he is as good as advertised, and his main concern was playing time, I have to think he will be playing next year.

will come into a program with the likes of Moss, Beye, Morris and even to some extent
Pratt. I do not think Durham will be able to hold him back and redshirt him, but by the
same token I am penciling him as coming off the bench, unless we are hit with the injure
bug. Freshman are notorious for having big games and then bad games, and adjusting to
the longer season. Figure him as the future and the guy we can bring off the bench to
give us some solid offense, physicalness and quickness. Depth baby we have depth.
Lets keep our expectations for a true Freshman reasonable.
OH YEA, but his sophomore season he will kick BUTT

Mark my words, barring injury, Pratt and Durr will redshirt before Chawn! I also hearHelenaCat wrote:I suspect a lot will depend on who else Durham recruits this year. that Durham and company may sign another big man highschooler now that Chawn is on
board. They are now recruiting from strength. If the best JC guy that they can sign is
not rated (on their board) enough, they may go and sign a Highschool big man who they
think will be a better prospect down the line. (ie if the best JC is a Taylor Pratt or Calvin
Ento type, but they still have a highly rated high school post prospect, they will go with
the highschooler. The same could be said about the JC wing they are after, They only
have 1 or 2 JC wings they are looking at if they do not get one of them they have about 4
highschool wing they are very interested in.

It seems to me we are doing pretty well now in the big man area as well as the gaurd area. But, I think we are in real need of 2 more small forwards/wings. I am a big proponet of having real athletic wings that can do it all. I feel dissly is a good fit but we need a backup for him real bad. I would love to see an aaron rich type. Long and athletic who can shoot and gaurd the other teams best player. If we can nail down a jc like that or go the H.S. route it would be very good.
Another guy we have fell asleep on is Martrel Johnson. He has been questionable for a while now, and at one point i felt he would never fully recover his game from before his transplant, but I've seen him recently and he looks much improved. He has packed on alot of upper body strength and looks fairly quick again. I still wonder about his drive. He seems to not have an intense hunger for working hard. Then again i don't see him in practice.

You are absolutely right about Johnson's work ethic. Anytime I have seen him practice, he loafs.peedintunnel wrote:It seems to me we are doing pretty well now in the big man area as well as the gaurd area. Durr will never see the #4 again....he will play "comfortably" behind Dissly, so he will not redshirt. Pratt is going to be a senior, so he surely will not redshirt. With Ted coming back, this kid will redshirt.mslacat wrote:Mark my words, barring injury, Pratt and Durr will redshirt before Chawn!HelenaCat wrote:I suspect a lot will depend on who else Durham recruits this year.
