Tolar Gets Lucky Seventh Offer

Now that the calling period has begun for college coaches, the scholarship offers begin to rack up for the state's top players. The top two players in the state - Taylor Mays and Stephen Schilling are closing in on 20 offers apiece. Four other players are closing in on double digits, and one of those is Pasco lineman Ryan Tolar who just informed us that he has received his seventh offer tonight.

"Montana State just called," said Tolar. "Utah offered me on Monday."

Colleges have also been making their way to southeastern Washington to visit Pasco High. He said, "I have seen coaches come in and out, but I'm not totally sure on who all has stopped by. I know for sure that Nebraska, Washington State, Arizona and Washington have."
Tolar has stated all along that he plans on taking the recruiting process real slow, making a decision close to signing day. He said, "I'm just wide open with the whole process. I'm going to take my five trips and make my decision when I am 100 percent sure that the school is the right one."

The 6-foot-6, 325-pounder is the second national recruit from Pasco in consecutive years, and has offers from Arizona State, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, and Washington State to go with the two most recent offers.

Last year's national recruit was Leon Jackson, who signed with Nebraska, and is very close to getting qualified. Tolar is leaning on Jackson to help him through the ups and downs of recruiting. He said, "He tells me what happened to him through the process and some things to expect, but also my coaches are doing a lot to help me through the process. I'm pretty lucky to be in that situation with others that have gone through it before."

We will keep you posted on the latest with Tolar.

2005 Goals: "As a team I hope to capture first a league championship, and then a state title. Not only that, but I feel that we need to challenge our defense to limiting the big plays that so often hurt us. Individually I hope to attend a college next year and play football. Hopefully it will be under some type of athletic scholarship. Another goal I have for myself is to help lead my team through each and every week. I'm not worried about self glory, but more about working and winning as a team."
