There’s another major battle for a starting job in the secondary at cornerback, where Carroll and Joey Thomas are vying for the job opposite Harris. Carroll has more speed and quickness, but Thomas, a third-round pick last season, enters training camp with an edge after out-working and out-performing Carroll this offseason.

Whereas Carroll spent a good part of the offseason working with his trainers in Arkansas and Atlanta, Thomas remained in Green Bay and took part in all organized team activities as well as the offseason conditioning program.

“(Thomas) deserved that opportunity and earned the right to have the nod going into training camp,” Baker said. “Joey was on a little bit of a personal mission this offseason, he talked a lot about being the best player he could and dedicated himself to it.”

This article has been out there for awhile. A very good work ethic will get you places. This is the prime example of one. At least someone is starting practice. We have this until the Cats start. I hope Joey cleans up over Carroll.

Actually that snipet I posted is from 7/24 from the GB newspaper.

This one is from ESPN:

Battles to watch: CB Joey Thomas has closed the gap created by Ahmad Carroll during their rookie seasons. Thomas impressed coaches in the offseason while Carroll, often victimized as wide-eyed easy prey in 2004, chose to work out on his own away from the team. No one knows for sure how either will fit in Bates' system, but both have a lot to prove. Both safety jobs and more than one DL position are classified as yet-to-be-determined.

Doesn't Joey run a 4.4 40? How fast is Carroll?
