The matchup with Stephen F. Austin will be either a good offensive battle, or it will be a drubbing. Which one it is, I am not sure, although I would prefer to see the Cats win by at least 3 touchdowns.
Stephen F. Austin does have a good duo between the quarterback Zeke Dixon and wideout Chance Dennis. Dennis is big (6'2", 200 lbs.) and isn't slow. His game against Henderson St. was nothing to be sneezed at with 9 grabs for nearly 120 yards. I would expect the Lumberjacks to go to him as much as possible and if we have Kory Austin playing CB, they would want to match Dennis up on him.
This being said, I think that SFA will need to get at least 350 yards passing out of Dixon to have a chance in this one, and he will have to be much more careful throwing the ball against an aggressive and revamped Bobcat's secondary, which features Kahaiam Hunter and Ryan Force, than he was against DII Henderson St.
Expect the Bobcats to stop the run on defense and throw early and often on offense to get a rhythm and get a couple of scores. If and after they get a rhythm on offense, they will probably turn to Mike Bass and Justin Domineck to pound the run down SFA's throat until they gag. (Insert Linda Lovelace or Deep Throat lines here).
Travis Lulay is simply too good of a commander on the field to be held in check this week and if he had Gatewood at his disposal, I would predict 400 yards passing, and no that isn't impossible as we have seen. The offensive line is too good to let Lulay see nearly as much pressure as he saw last week and Bass will be better at picking up the free man on the likely many blitzes SFA will throw at the Cats.
I expect Evin Groves to get a few carries this game as well and look forward to seeing this offense go up against a less than stellar defense. From what I have seen and heard of Groves, he could easily be a starter this year.
The defense will be awesome and fast with Epi, Clive, Mac, and Nick at the LB flying around everywhere and the diminuitive Dre Fuller demolishing wideouts running crossing routes or QB's from the blindside. The DL will be great with Big Lou in the middle taking on a plethora of O-linemen and letting the rest of the defense run at the ball-carrier. As much of a fiction as this sounds, he will surprise everyone in person, he is a behemoth.
My prediction: Bobcats- 42, Lumberjacks- 17

I'm not trying to sound like the board's resident contrarian, but I've observed where many of the posters think this game is going to be a cupcake at least by some of the scores predicted.profisme wrote:The matchup with Stephen F. I'm cautiously optimistic......will Bass have a break out game? Who knows.....what I do know right now is that we certainly haven't shown anyone that we can run at this point. As for passing, we have a ton of potential but with our main game breaker being out, I think it's up in the air still. Guinn has the potential to break out but Miller and Murray as well as the othhr WR's haven't really proven much at this point.
I believe our defense is our only current strength that is proven. SFA is always a tough opponent regardless of whether they're having an off year. We have the home field advantage thankfully.
I'm giving the Cats a 27-21 nod; it's early in the year and until I'm proven otherwise, we will start out slow like always.

I missed on the opponents score... oh well.
By the way, that guy out there throwing the ball nowhere near the circle target thing at the end of the 3rd quarter was me. I have reasons as to why I missed, and one of them happens to be that I have very little accuracy throwing the football. I still walked away with 10 dollars, but not the 75 it could have been.
I am very happy with how the Cat's played, except for the turnovers by our offense, we need to cut down on those. Austin and Fuller played awesome and Epi is Epi, just so fast.

Thanks for the congrats Peed.
Here are my top 5 reasons that I missed the tire throw:
1.) They didn't let me warm up.
2.) The balls were rock hard, they were aired up all the way.
3.) I jinxed myself by telling a few of my friends that I was going to do it.
4.) My accuracy was off, as per usual.
5.) The girl who asked me to do it was really good looking and I was talking to her the whole time before I went out to throw.
Number 5 was the biggest reason, no doubt.
