Where has Guinn Gone?

For those of you lucky enough to either be in Flagstaff or watch on TV can you give some insight as to where Chaz Guinn has disappeared to? He was our most productive receiver the first few games (I know that wasn't saying much) but has really been a non factor for weeks now. Does he look hurt, uninterested, what?

Thank goodness for the resurgance of Eddie and the dominance of Gatewood. A lot of people left him for dead after the first 2 or 3 games and he has really proven us wrong. Way to go Ricky.

Chaz played a pretty solid game at NAU, I thought. Although he has not been as much of a factor in recent weeks catching the ball, I still see him playing hard and doing the other things, such as blocking downfield. He had 4 catches against NAU - unfortunately, he dropped 2 passes in the endzone that would have been touchdowns. I think he is just suffering from a little lack of confidence in himself right now. We need him to come to play these next bunch of games, though, so I hope he can work through that and play like we know he can.

Also, I don't want to forget to add that he made absolutely HUGE catches on our game-winning drives against Portland State and SDSU. I like to see players that, when they make a mistake, have the heart to come back with an even bigger play to make up for it!

I think Guinn is going through the slump that the other receivers went through early in the year.
I feel he has all the tools, and is just having trouble putting it together.
He has had some key catches for us, and if you watch some of our longer runs and longer catches, he has had some key blocks too.
He will put it all together and get out of this slump.

I couldn't agree more. While he has had his share of easy drops, he has also made some clutch catches when we needed them. But the biggest thing is what he is doing when he doesn't have the ball. I have watched him many times in the previous three home games and seen great blocking and awareness of the play from him...and from all of the recievers for that matter. Really is a nice thing to see and I believe is really starting to pay dividends for our offense.

I also think that with the emergence of Eddie, Rick and Blake that there just isn't enough balls to go around. Look at the stats, we have four players with 30 or more catches plus JD with (I believe) 28. It is been a long time since we have had these types of numbers with so many different players. Defenses don't know who to stop!

The way Travis is throwing the ball, I'll bet Chaz will have another big game for us sometime within the next three games.

I agree with you Canyon Cat, I think he is now the 3rd/4th option in our offense now (WHICH IS A GOOD THING!). He'll have a breakout game in my opinion in one of these last 3 I bet.

The way all of our receivers (Ricky, Eddie, Blake, JD and Chaz) are playing right now, if you are an opposing D coordinator, who do you concentrate on stopping?? If you try to double up on one guy, another will beat you.

All positive stuff. I am really glad to hear he hasn't let his lack of catches and numbers affect the rest of his game. That is the sign of a good kid and a winning attitude. And the griz wonder why we are climbing the charts like we are. $\:D/$

Guinn actually figured pretty heavily into our great start. He had a nice block on the very first play-a 37 yard catch and run by Wolf. He also had an early catch where he carried a defender for 2 or 3 yards to get a first down. And as others have noted-he's had some good blocks on other pass plays.

He still seems to have a key drop in every game, but I still think he's played pretty well.

You know, I always am more impressed to see receivers blocking than I am to see them catching passes. You get all the glory when you catch the passes, but you rarely get much recognition for blocking well. This is the sign of a great TEAM, they would rather win than care about who is getting the most balls thrown their way. Gatewood and Sullivan are also great downfield blockers, and I love it!

The more I watch this team, the easier it is to understand why we win the close ones - TEAMWORK and HEART. These guys play the game with a tremendous display of teamwork, everywhere on the field. After every play, you see our O-linemen running over to help pick up the tackled RB/WR/QB. You see Eddie and everyone cheering on the defense and slapping helmets when they get a stop. You see the defense giving high fives to the offense when they score. If you ever had the privelege to be close enough to the field during one of those nailbiters, you could see the look in every single player's eyes that they just KNEW they were going to get that final score and win - doubt never even crept into their minds. I think that the chemistry on this team is quite special, and will help down the road and into the playoffs!

The other thing I'm seeing that I like. After a big catch you'll see Gatewood or Sullivan pop right back up and line up for the next play. No big celebrating or anything. It shows good dicipline, and I'm sure it's really tough for an emotional guy like Sullivan to do.

I saw Guinn at my accounting test the other night, he looked pretty nervous. Maybe school is getting to him, MSU is usually a pretty big step up from JuCo, academically in this case.

As I live in AZ now, I was lucky to have had the chance to watch the game at Walkup. In watching the Cats for the better part of 9 years, this was the finest example of offense I've ever seen displayed. The receivers are amazing right now. Wolf is a monster and Gatewood has game-breaking ability. I'm still waiting for the running game to really kick into full gear.

All in all, despite the few MSU fans there, it was pretty sweet seeing Jack fans leave after the first TD in the 2nd quarter. Our defense put on a good, solid performance with the exception of NAU's first score not too long after the 3rd quarter began.

Like I said, I like what I saw and I really wish I could see this team play out the rest of the year. That was just awesome!!!!

Guinn had more than a few chances to pad his stats at nau. He dropped a few sure TD's. BUT...... I think he played a great game as a team player. He worked hard on every down, he hustled between plays, he cheered on his teammates, and he made a huge downfield block to save Lulays bacon on a busted play. Lulay scrambled to his left and had a defender closing quick. Guinn came back and ear-holed the defender, giving Lulay safe passage to the sideline and subsequent 1st down.

He can only blame himself for his drops at nau becuase Lulay put em right in his hands this week. He will be fine and he will continue to be productive in our offense.
